Aww, here was hoping I'd discovered some exciting new lore from the Great Lakes :p
Why are there no ghost mermaids? There totally should be!
If you're making such a tail, I'd love to see it!

It's very simple, I'm at my first experience xD
Here's the general design for my first tail, made of fabric found around the house. The dorsal fin will be much smaller, as I have limited fabric/ample dorsal area. I'm debating as to whether glow-in-the-dark fabric paint on stretch velvet is a good idea...

I've never had much luck painting on velvet. I imagine stretch would be even worse to handle.... Maybe you can paint the glow-in-the-dark stuff on sequins and then tack then down to the velvet after?
I was thinking of adding some sequins when i can get some, I thought it would look spectacular with some sequin scales scattered here and there! As for the paint, I was mostly thinking of paint along the side seams. Maybe side fringe + paint, since it won't need to stretch as much? I've never painted fabric before -_-;

This is the design for my tail I've been working on- not quite there yet, but it's getting close to what I want.
WOW! I love those colors!<3
Hiya!
I've designed a couple of tails on that Doll Divine website! They're quite basic but my favourite is the blue and hopefully I'll be able to make/commission it one day! :)

Here is my Lionfish tail! I hope to have a color scale up soon but I may not be able to .

I've added color to a second concept page. It is horrible color because I had to use acrylic paint but it works :3

I love the Lionfish designs. It's such a beautiful setup with the big pectoral and dorsal fins and would look great as a tail. :)
<3 thanks. I want the base color to be a little different but I will have to add white highlights though I'm considering using UV or glow paint
Wow! Great designs!
Wow Soulstrifer, Your design is so in depth and beautiful. I wanna see this concept become a reality!
Heeeheee.....
My hubby picked a fluke design out of the dozen and a half I drew for him.

We're now working on a color scheme, and possible extra fins.
I'm probably going to have to mold this fluke myself, and send the negative to a tailmaker(probably Jesse).
that fluke is amazing Dottie! what colors are you thinking of?
He likes earth tones. Blues, greens, browns, etc, and I've also thrown in black, and silver. I currently have 50 different color schemes/patterns.
I'm hoping he picks out something really attractive.
His favorite color is blue (like my eyes *flutter flutter flutter*).
Here is the finished design for the Largmouth -Black- Bass
I know this one isn't really flashy but I am going for a realistic look and not fantasy appearance.

So after posting replays to some of you, here are mine. And please oh please do not copy. If you would like to 'base' a tail of of them (I like the idea of uniqueness of mers) please, just contact me. :)

WOW! I love your designs in your album, very neat<3
And Soulstrifer...whoa. That looks SO realistic.
Thanks guys <3 And Cas you have some lovely designs
As I was going to realistic, the bass has two fins down it's back so instead of ankle fins I put the second fin on the back of the calves. It's only a concept but it is as accurate as I was going to get.
Not really a fan of extra fins myself, but I do love the bass color pattern!
It's going to be used to support and educate people at the local lakes about Bass and their importance to the lake ecosystem and that taking the fat, egg heavy females around spawn hurts the population. Basically I will be using it to try and convert meat fisherman into recreational fisherman and those who still want to eat them ... then take some of the smaller ones and let the big ones go. For that reason I want the tail itself to be a accurate as possible... I myself would much rather have small ankle fins than the Soft rays Dorsal ... I had to leave out what would be the anal fin because it looked stupid... I might not add that second dorsal on when I get down to actually making it though.
Her tail is made of silicone.
I will do my best. I should be able to start on it in a few weeks.
Looks just like the bass I used to catch! :-D Very well done! (I always catch and release.)
I think you might be able to get away with moving the 2nd soft ray dorsal to a more heel fin spot and maybe have it as a bit smaller? So you still have the "feel" of that fin, it just "fits" a mermaid better. Hope that helps?
It's a killer design and I cannot wait to see it real! Love what you're using it for! Best of luck! ^_^
With full support of my fiancee <3 who is gung ho for the idea of me making a mertail -which kind of both surprised me and didn't surprise me at the same time. I will be picking up my mono fin while I'm down in South Padre :D So I should be able to start my scale board and hopefully fluke sculpt soon
I am waiting on an old version of PaintShopPro to download to colour it in, But I used DollDevine to do a white Blank tail worn by me.
I had too much fun doing this, I probably won't order matching arm-warmers or make gauze cap sleeves, But I am saving up to order a partial silicone tail from Shelly, hopefully this year.
