Looking for some advice...I am less-than-busty. Very much so. As in, I can barely fit an A cup. I have a top that I made (well, okay, kinda. It got left out in the backyard for a long time and is currently covered in dirt...and algae. Oops lol) on a bra that was actually one of my sisters' that got left behind when they moved out. It's small, an A, I believe. It has lions paw shells. Pretty average. But when I swim, water will rush in and it's tiny-boob-a-palooza when the water pulls the top away from my chest. I have it tied up with netting and double knot it and make it tight enough that it actually hurts my neck.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? Add more stuff around the shells so more of my chest is covered? I never thought having TINY boobs would be a problem. :|
Syd, maybe add netting that goes over the center of the top? Like a bandeu top?
I would make sure you have the correctly sized bra first! My bras used to gap a bunch on the top. But when I got correctly measured and figured out sister sizing, bras magically started to fit. I'm not sure if that'll solve everything, but it may help a little!
I always get worried about this as well. It is hard to find swim tops small enough for me sometimes - but especially in the past. I haven't tested my top out in the water yet, but I think it will stick to me well. I was thinking though that if I do have issues, I will use a sports bra. I really think a sports bra will hold on tight to you and you won't have to always be looking down to make sure your top is not gaping open when you bend over or swim, etc. I know how you feel though. I have put on a top, gotten in the pool, then had to tie it much tighter and constantly worry about it. I hate wearing a one piece though so I know that that is not always a fun option.
I am sure that you can make a sports bra look very pretty with shells, fake seaweed, etc. I hope this helps! :)
Or buy booster bras.
I have the same problem! Lol I actually now use the gell adhesive inserts ie. Fake Boobie. It helps add that extra push and fills in the gaps's and if your bra still gaps no one can see the itty-bitty's[emoji12]
Just purchase some close to your skin color.

Mine still stick to me after five swims, now I do have my mermaid bra on top of it so it really doesn't have any place to go if it decides to not be as sticky.
Wow, I thought I was alone with this problem! Thanks for all the responses! :) the bandeau thing sounds like a good idea..and like it can turn out to be really cute :) I'd definitely like to try those silicone things! They look comfy!
I've always had issues with bras. Never had one that fit properly. I try to avoid wearing them as much as possible. Because freedom. Lol
Just finished my top ^_^

Doesn't show the colours that well, but its the same as my tail (silver and dark blue) ^_^
Run your measurements through this calculator: www.sophisticatedpair.com/bracalculator.htm
Like a lot of others, I've had trouble for years and years finding bras that fit. Once I figured out my true size (and learned how bra sizes work), I've never had another issue :)

I made this little Jellyfish top and matching hair piece this morning :D
Oh my god how cute! :swoon:
Clever! I love the tentacles!
So cute! I've never seen a jellyfish inspired top, that's lovely :D
Btw, I must ask for you all that where on ocean have you found that beautiful netting made of that cotton-like string? I haven't found them anywhere from Finland, even though fishing is quite popular hobby or profession here... Like yeah, we have that thin, plastic net and I even have tried that but omg it is a pain in the ass... And it can be used only as a decoration cause otherwise it really can go trough skin
So if you have any kinds of web pages or anything which also ships world wide, share them with me please <3 :D
I have begun making neoprene sea animals for embellishing tops, tails - wherever! These and other items can be found in my Etsy shop, Mermaid Galene's Grotto. See the classified section here on MerNetwork for more info. Here's my prototype: a Blue-ringed Octopus named Octavia. I wore her, to the delight of lots of children, at our New Year's Eve waterpark gig.

In the next few months, I will be adding more realistic neoprene animals: other octopus species, rays, sea turtles, and eels. Down the road I will also be listing faerie products - perhaps even a neoprene dragon or two!
Here's my top, its made with scales, bikini top, and ballet tights.

The other stuff I'm wearing is my walking around mermaid skirt/dress.
Beautiful, Enora!
Galene, I love your neoprene octopus! He's too cute!
Thanks, Opal!
I'd love for one of these guys to find a home with you, Queen!
Meanwhile, the Kraken bides his time...
Wow i love the octopus, it's very funny ^^
So I decided to repaint a bra I made last year. I need a top to match a sparkle walking tail I made and I had two pretty turquoise shells, and was going to make a brand new top, but decided to just sell those sells and repaint my other and add glitter

**Currently working on a White Abalone shell top :)
Great before and after! I liked the top before but wow I love the addition of the glitter and the beads or pearls. :D
those are beautiful!
What did you use to paint the shells Shimmy? I was told to use acrylic paint, but that didn't last long at shells and was scratched off very easily :-(
That is what I used. Mostly Metallic paints. I also used some Lumiere on some other shells. I added a glitter coat and could probably spray them with a clear coat. I did have one shell chip on the edge, but b/c I banged the shell so I just painted over it. I havn't had any problems yet with paint chipping or flaking. I am pretty careful with all my costumes
Just painted this one for my daughter yesterday...going to make her a pink shell top to match her Fin fun tail

Thanks Arion! I have thought about it. :) Its just so much work..LOL and I ended up liking them all
Been resting for the past 2 days due to a migraine and cramps and feel shitty, but needed to do something today. So I grabbed my heating pad and put on some scary movies and decided to make my daughter a new mermaid top to match her pink Fin Fun tail :) Still want to add some pink pearls, but overall it is mostly done. Cannot wait until the weather warms up and can do a photoshoot with it.
