Some people took some awesome pictures of my tail on Saturday at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, so I thought I'd share them here.

Everyone looks fantastic in their tails!!
Theta, I showed my grandmother your tail and she said that you looked like an old fashioned movie star. I.e. fantastic and classic.
Stillll havent gotten to swim and take some watery pictures yet, but my daughter took some at home today!

Love your scales!
I think the photo in the tub is my favorite. Very surreal

Gorgeous tail. Love it. Love love love it.
I love your tail, Merwandering. Did you make it yourself?
Thank you all so very much!! I did make the tail- I jumped into it randomly, but worked (slightly obsessively) for a few weeks and just recently finished. Hoping to swim with it very soon:)
You put some wonderful detail in that fluke! I think you did a FINtastic job!
Mind if I ask who made it

Also to note, your daughter is an excellent photographer.

Merwandering, I'm absolutely stunned by your tail! I'm in love!
Thank you all so very much for the compliments and encouragement:) You are SUCH inspiring people!!!!
And thank you about my daughter's photography- she's 15 and she was the one who really wanted to take on making the tails from silicone- she is making her own as well. Mine was a little ahead in production because it was our guinea pig, lol.
This project was so addictive, and I think I am going to make just one more but it will probably take a long time, because I want to experiment with hand painting scales to look like realistic peacock feathers!
Have you thought about making other mers tails?

Here's a sneaky peek at my new metal tail. I predict it to weigh approx. 17 lbs and absolutely im going to swim in it. Has anyone done a split fluke before? The idea has been fluttering around my brain due to pure novelty but im unsure if its a good idea. Any input, friends?

WOW! cool!
And mad respect for being able to swim in that!
Pffff whatever all the mers with silicone tails have it WAY harder! Having 65+ lbs strapped onto your body is really difficult! Again, this tail will probably be closer to 17lbs, given the help of water, it'll feel more like 7! Swimming will be no problem, i hope. However admittedly i have not tested it yet. Mostly due to the fluke not being done.

Silicone has the added benefit of being neutrally buoyant, though. So when you get in the water be careful you don't just sink...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the scales, though!
Thank youuu! Im so excited, its going to be so shiny! Pics and maybe video will be uploaded after the first swim!

Please wear a life vest when you do a test swim and have someone who knows how to rescue swim around. I mean the idea is cool, but it honestly scares me.
I'll be swimming in three feet of water. Im 5 ft 9. It would be difficult to drown.
If i do, i give full permission for everyone to put "We told you so" on my grave.

That is so awesome! It almost looks like chainmaile. Def one of the most creative tails I've seen.

Mermaid Caspiana, I'm afraid there's not much you can do to keep the Mylar from detaching from the sequins. Latex well make you look like Daryl Hannah in Splash when they had her in the tank and she was wasting away. Robert Short, the sfx/tailmaker told us that's what he used to get that effect.
Unfortunately, that's the nature of iridescent sequins. The coating peels off the pvc sequin. You're probably better off going back and hand sewing the sequins to your substrate (powermesh). Otherwise they will continue to peel off. Sorry!
Mermaid Athena, you look amazing! That's so cool that you got to meet Shatner! What did he think? I LOVE that purple on black!
I was always a bit curious as to how they managed to produce such a realistic ick-like effect to show how poorly captivity and despair had treated Madison (I even mentioned that when making her gallery for the Disney Wiki: http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Madison). I can see you asked Mr. Short all the right questions! :mermaid kiss:
This tail lot of late has been lovely and oh-so-fire-themed! It seems noone is going to have any trouble finding someone to lava!
I'm also quite curious to see some footage of swimming in the can-mail tail!
How are you keeping it from scratching you? Is that soda can tabs?
