Yes! This has happened to Raven too many times :( There need to be repercussions if someone pulls out of an order. Especially one that's rush or has custom sculpting work.
Not to have at least a fifty percent kill fee and non-refundable deposit in place for a bespoke item like a performance qualify full silicone tail is not a good business decision. You have to have your materials costs covered at the very least before one lick of work even begins! Graphic design, tailored suits, wedding dresses, web sites... there's no reason custom mermaid tails shouldn't be included in that business model.
Why would anyone even want to back out? Before spending money on a tail a lot of thought should be put into it and I don't see how after planning out a design and paying for it (especially with a rush fee) that someone could just say oh never mind forget all of that hard work you put into it I changed my mind I'd like a refund. That irks me.
Maybe something really unfortunate happened to someone and they have to pay hospital bills. :-/
I don't think they pulled out because they didn't want the tail, I'm sure they were excited to get a spot in line and are heart broken they cant fully pay for the tail anymore.

I feel like no refund should be given at all. I didn't even realise she gave refunds if you changed your mind. You pay in full for your tail before it starts, if you decide you don't want it at the end, that's cool but you're not getting you're money back. Maybe a little brutal but it's about as much as they deserve. I understand that some people do undergo certain circumstances but if you may not have the money to get yourself out of trouble then you shouldn't be spending it on a tail.
Or go for, half now and the rest after its done. Cos I'm guessing all those materials to create a tail isn't cheap. At least she would get some money out of it even if the customer didn't pay up.

@Mermaid Selene: I'm curious what happed with your tail after that acsident with that photoshoot? :confused: Did u send the tail out to get it fixed or?
Someone on the forum who is in Florida won it and raven threw in a photoshoot!

@Ariel Starfish- I didn't send it out to Raven because it would cost about as much as the tail did to ship it back and forth. I sent her an email explaining the damage but never got a reply so I looked through the forum/Internet about how to patch it up and did it myself. Right now I'm focusing on practicing with a monofin I got for Christmas though so I can swim in the tail correctly.
I couldn't let such a grand opportunity pass me by. :D

There was an incident involving a photo shoot, a boat and some rocks covered in oysters. The tail saved my butt, quite literally but suffered some damage to the silicone as a result. I've fixed it up already though, I bought some dragon-skin and put it in the cuts, so it's a lot better now.Quote:

Hey all! Been a while since I've posted....
So, Congrats to MermaidMechanic! You have one awesome tail now!!
And as for the "base price" of the tail, it isn't $4,000 instead it actually is $3,650. Raven said it herself on her page. After I ordered my tail (and probably a few others, too) she did a price adjustment and dropped her performance tail price from $3,000 to $2,600.
So, the tail alone would not have been a "$4,000 tail" as has been stated. and custom fins don't cost extra... just the fins are extra. And there wasn't a custom fluke, just the dragon part on the front, which would probably be extra.
All in all, yeah... wanted to clear that up. :-)
I might have photo shoots soon, but I need to do a temp fix on my fins... I can't afford to ship my tail to Raven yet. :-(

Hey has anyone heard from Raven regarding Client tails I've messages here about 4 times over the space a two months and nothing I currently 188days and I haven't seen any pictures! I hope she's not sick!
