Has anyone been to Pells Pool in Lewes? Do they allow fins?
I am totally willing to travel anywhere in the UK for a meetup!
Just a reminder for the blackpool event, if you want to come, be sure to add me on fb on my personal page: https://www.facebook.com/stargirlphotography (just msg to say who you are) and i'll accept and then add you to the event page, for some reason it still won't let me set it to public!
actually! Scratch that!
Figured out what I did wrong, I now have a public event listed: https://www.facebook.com/events/1618537451738623/ Feel free to rsvp and invite your friends along too =) If people are needing a place to crash, add my personal fb page and let me know so we can work things out x
Apparently you don't need to send out friend requests, just type an @ and next to it the name you want to invite :) I just found it out ahahhaha :)
Is anyone going to the Folkestone Mermaid Festival this weekend?
I replied to your post on Facebook about it! :D Missed the Brighton mermaid parade, so I definitely plan on making it to this one!
Hey guyys! I just had a meeting with the head of marketing from the sandcastle waterpark about hiring the pool for september for the meet! WE ARE A GO!!! :D
we have the choice to hire it for the friday night 8-10pm after our day on the pleasure beach themepark, or on the thursday night for a few hours starting at 4.30pm as they close a bit earlier on the thursday.
(I'm covering hire fees, but if people want to possibly swim both evenings, i'd have to ask for people to chip in like £10 to cover the hire fees for the extra evening, and I'd have to check with the waterpark but I couldn't see it being an issue to use it both nights)
If you're interested in coming, please rsvp on the event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1618537451738623/ and please get sharing the event and invite any mers you may know!
And they're super excited about the idea of it becoming a much larger annual event ;)
That's so exciting!!! I wish I were able to make it to this meetup. I really really hope it does become an annual thing, I would so be there next year!

Also just to make people aware of here who might not have seen on fb. The event for the 11th has been postponed til the spring cause no one could make it to this one. It'll be a small UK mer focused meet.
Aaaaand I'm definitely planning a larger event for next September/October. Like a UK merfest. I'm going to be bringing in some guest speakers so if people can start making any requests for who, that would be great :)

Oo I'd hope to be able to come to Blackpool next year but it depends on how my business is going (my self and my fiancee are setting up a tabletop gaming cafe in Weston-super-mare)
Hey guys!
If any of you are on facebook, I have created a group for all mermaids in the UK to get to know each other and stuff =)

Thank you!Lovely to see more of us this side of the pond :D
Hello [emoji4]
Brand new mer here from Kent in the UK. I don't know how I've managed to go this long before discovering the world of mermaiding! My dream is to improve my swimming until I'm finally confident enough to swim in a tail. I have a feeling it's going to be an immense amount of hard work, but very very worth it!

Halloh! :D
Don't worry you're not the only one working on the swim fitness side of things lol. I'm starting swim tag training at my local pool this week :)
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm so incredibly unfit it's frightening. I was going to wait until I'd improved before making a tail but figured I might as well start now - if nothing else it'll give me the motivation I need to keep working on my swimming!

You're definitely not the only one LoulouBelle. I'm a swimming teacher but my own swim fitness is awful. I used to do competitive swimming but an injury a number of years ago sidelined my active lifestyle and I gained a huge amount of weight because of it. Always wanted to be a mer of some description but was put off by my size and general lack of fitness. I joined mernetwork as motivation that I can actually achieve my goals ^_^
Me three ladies - I used to be a dancer but in recent years have let my fitness slide horrendously. I burlesque now and am happy with my new curvier/squidgier frame, but ohmygod I want my stamina back! And I really miss dancing and swimming... so mermaiding and a new dance class it is :D
(Turns out I'm enthusiastic about exercise if I love what I'm doing - I'm just not much of a gym or running bunny...)
It definitely makes a huge difference if you enjoy what you're doing. Instead of feeling like you're working hard to get fit, it feels like you're doing something for the fun of it and getting fit as a bonus. I can't see anything appealing about the thought of going to a gym, but swimming is just immense fun. I was moved up a group at my swimming lesson this week, so something's definitely working!

Congrats! ^_^ I do find that swimming is one of those things you can improve much quicker with in a noticeable way. I don't seen as much personal improvement with things like running or cycling as I do with swimming. I'm not sure if that is just me. Either way, keep it up LouLouBelle, you will be a full mermaid in no time ^_^
Thanks! I can't swim without thinking 'mermaid' and I think that's definitely adding a whole new dimension of motivation! [emoji23] I got really hyper excited when my instructor agreed that swimming with a monofin should be my goal to work towards. She said they've done a monofin course at the pool before, so it looks like I'm in a good place to work towards becoming a mermaid. [emoji4]

That's amazing LouLouBelle! :D Keep us posted!

Out of curiosity, any Mers around the east cheshire/ manchester area interested in setting up a swim night? I can get a good deal on hiring my pool out for an hour and would love to get a regular thing going after christmas.
I'm in Manchester a lot and can get the train to Chester fairly easily but if people want to meet in Blackpool on a semi regular basis I can talk to my pool about doing a regular booking for the pool here, dunno if that helps too :)

Lots of options! I work at my pool so can get super awesome discount :P A trip to blackpool would be nice though, although it would be hard to make it a regular thing for me as I'm a very very poor student.
