Dump his sorry butt (if it were me, I'd blast him about it first) I went to Senior Prom with my boyfriend, and I hardly ever danced with him :P he only really saw me when I came to get a drink, my phone for pictures, or when he came to try and find me :P You definitely don't need a date as long as your friends are going. Ditch him and have a blast.
@Jeblily
If only I could, I would gladly escort you to your prom night. We don't have them in France, it would have been a lot of fun for me :)

Everyone on mernetwork right now
We had a kind of prom, but I went there alone as my ex-bf ended it a few weeks before exam ends. His loss not mine :D
And Arion for you I would make an exception and go out with a Frenchman ;)
I wear this every day for my job :)
Sadly, no. We do not have proms in France. It's an American thing, I guess.
When I was a senior and about to be graduated, someone suggested to do a prom night like the ones we see in American movies and then created one in the biggest room of my high school. I went there but not many people showed up. Mostly because it's not something common in France. It wasn't a success but it was not a failure either. People had good time, I didn't but at least I showed up and experimented it. It was nice but I wish I had friends to go with me.
The thing is that I hated my high school years. Not many good things to remember. So there you have it.. *shrug*
I need to rant about something that really pisses me off.
There is this guy on Instagram whose name is Sven and he's a merman. He has a cool account but there is one thing that really gets on my nerves : he uses every single time gay-related hashtags for every post he makes...
Being gay is not relevant to mermaiding! Being a merman has nothing to do with sexuality.
I'm gay as well and I DO NOT use such hashtags to get more likes and attention. I feel that we do not need to show blatantly to people our preferences, it's something private. Do straight guys and women have to use the hashtag #straight in their posts?! The answer is NO. Then WHY should we??
I have nothing negative to say about that Sven guy, I have no doubt he's a nice guy and all. I guess he and I just have a different way to think. Nevertheless, I think I'm gonna avoid to fall into the clichés.

My heart just stopped...:swoon::fallover:
I may just have to fly you to the US Arion!!!
I hate when they use so many hash tags it feels like they are just trying to get more views... Mermaid Melissa
So that's why Sven has so many likes... I follow him to see where his popularity comes from considering he only has a finfun tail. He's just a wiz at photomanip and design. Cookie could do that, too.
And oh, let me try the hashtag game: #OMGmermaid, #Bluemermaid, #MermaidCeleste, #CelesteMermaid, #florida, #littlemermaid, #littlebluemermaid, #floridamermaid, #straightgirlmermaid, #straightalltheway, #totallystraight, #notmermaidmelissa
Well, not only that. He also gets a lot of commissioned artworks on him, some made by gay artists.
I'm all for sharing but to me, using the gay hashtag for mermaiding to get more views is the same as melissa pulling the same moves.
Edit : I happen to have more followers than him on Instagram and yet, I have less pictures than him and I never used his hashtags.
I feel like it's not sending a great message out, too - that all mermen have to be/are automatically gay, which deters straight men away from the scene because being gay is so often seen as being a wimp, which is seen as a bad thing.
Society is one big messed-up ball of awful :\
if he was trying to promote a business (haven't looked at his page yet) this would probably deter customers, which is the unfortunate truth. it's incredibly unprofessional.

Germany probably functions differently than America does. Maybe they are more open than we are about advertising sexual preferences. But seriously, if this guy wants to advertise himself as a flaming ball of merman, he should at least have thought about what this means to the community as well as himself.
*snort* flaming ball of merman *giggle*
Arion, if it makes you feel any better the only other "Persian Mermaid" advertised out there is someone in a fetish suit (which those of you who know me, know that this is not my issue, as I'm a freaky little SOB).... And since her face is completely covered and her "backstory" is utter bullshit, I'm almost 100% certain this b*tch is not Persian in the least, but using both mermaids and my ethnicity as some special-snowflake attention grab.
Which is what I wholly disapprove of.
one of my fur babies was killed early on the 10th
I'm pretty sure everyone on here just cried, looked at plane tickets to France, then cried again.
You look great!
Permaid? She's a performance art person. I don't know whether or not she's Persian but it's essentially a character for performance art and social action stuff. I don't really get it but eh. It's her idea of art. It's not actually meant to be a fetish thing, it's just using the fetish suit as a costume I believe. If she isn't Persian underneath the suit, I would be really bothered by that. Kinda racist.

<---late to the party...
That guy Sven is NOT an otter!
Uhhh I dunno why but this is bothering me? xD like no offense to any of you guys, you're great. It's just the more I'm reading these comments about Sven's hashtags it's bothering me haha. And I know I'll just feel horrid if I don't voice my opinion.
I think my main issue is that NO him, just him alone using hashtags with #gay etc is NOT going to come across as a 'all mermen must be gay' thing, that's a bit silly to say imo because obviously there ARE gay mermen and there ARE straight mermen. I don't understand the issue if I'm honest? Mermaiding will be seen as gay?...it kinda already is, but people who are smart enough to go past those stereotypes will come to the community gay or not so it doesn't worry me.
I don't know Sven or anything about him (only come across his posts once or twice on Facebook) so I don't know if he's a performer or not...but I wanted to bring that up because I want people to acknowledge that not all Mers are performers and so their 'Mersona' can literally be them in a tail...that's it, no character or different name or whimsical tidbits added. Just a regular billbob who happens to be a mermaid/man every so often. I'm included in this category. And whilst no, mermaiding isn't anything to do with sexuality...my sexuality is to do with who I am, and after years of being told I should hide it and be ashamed of who I am, I wouldn't exactly hide it (or promote it either but everyone's different).
Also I found it a bit sad that someone said they didn't understand his popularity because he 'just has a finfun tail'. Like nah, one of the more successful mermaid companies here in the UK use the magictails, not everyone can afford silicone or latex or more expensive tails and imo and from my experience kids don't really seem to see merfolk with fabric tails as any less 'real' than mers in more expensive types of tails. So yeah, the intention probably wasn't to bash on fabric/less expensive tails but it's how I read it and how it might come across so I just wanted to add that.
So yeah, not trying to start a fight or anything...if anything I'd actually prefer someone tell me a REALLY good reason as to why it's bad. 'Attention seeking' won't do it for me because at the end of the day...a lot on here are performers, a lot have facebook pages, youtube accounts etc. We promote these things, add tags to videos and posts. The hashtag system on sites such as instagram and tumblr are there for people to find you...and I wouldn't care much if someone was using hashtags I don't like because it's not my 'target audience' etc...if they're using them that's who they want to see it and it doesn't affect me so I dunno *shrugs*.
Also Pearlie is correct xD he's so not an otter.
@Vaughan- What I meant by "he only has a finfun tail" is that he is INSANELY popular in the way that the mers with higher quality tails are popular, but with a fabric tail. That's a pretty big feat in the professional world. He doesn't just sit back and let the super expensive tail do the talking, he actually does his own marketing and photomanipulation to the point where he can compete with the mers with the high quality tails. That's what makes him so popular.
What Arion is concerned about is the fact that he markets himself as a homosexual merman to the point of excessiveness. Sure, it's great to take pride in your sexual preference, but labeling yourself as a "gay otter" to the public may not help the public's stereotype on mermen being exclusively gay.
So I googled permaid and..

...I'm terrified
You wake up in the middle of the night to a slight thumping noise. You turn on the light, just dim enough to see. But then you see her. Slowly tapping her fin against the wall thump, thump, thump. Too stunned to say anything, you sit perfectly still, not daring to make a move. The lights turn off. Thump, thump, thump. Frantically turning around to try to get the damn lights to turn back on, you flick the switch a couple of times, and your goal is accomplished as the room is dim again. You wish you hadn't turned the lights back on as the last thing you saw was this creature on the ground racing towards you, drawing using both arms with the sleek black tail thrashing behind her. The last thing you heard was the dripping voice of the Permaid. "Art."
By Kalani.
Hahaha!

When coworkers just quit without a word, and you have to wake up early to cover for them. Have people forgotten what a freaking 2 weeks notice is?
-_- it's sharkweek.
