I can actually see the colouration difference between the front and back of Ariel's tail quite easily, and wonder if it wasn't intentional.
Most fish and cetaceans have evolved a dark back and light underside for the purposes of camouflage. When seen from above, one wishes to blend in with the dark depths below. When seen from below, one wishes to blend in with the light above. I was thinking of this truth specifically when designing my tail, and thus I intentionally incorporated it into the proposed paint job. I suspect that Raven was thinking along the same lines when she painted Ariel_Starfish's; she wanted it to look realistic. Thus I would recommend against changing it.
Ariel, in your lovely swimming-pool mermaid give in your signature, all I notice is a bit of heel and some natural creasing as your fluke turns to us. Maybe it's because you are so graceful and your tail so beautiful, but I am inclined to quote Joan of Arc and say that this matter is "a little thing; less than nothing." :mermaid kiss:

I am taking the same approach as Raina (pretty much); I sent Raven a detailed b&w sketch of my Fire Angelfish tail and then requested a matching dragon-style corset top. The latter I simply described without sketching; she offered such fine ideas for the tail that I trust her implicitly when designing the top. She's an artistic mer-genius! :mermaid kiss:
