Oh! I apologize. I though that since you were having Lotus_Blooming sketch something that meant you had a new design in mind

I really like Plastilina clay. My only problem with it, is that I am actually having difficulty sculpting with it. I haven't had any problems with resin effecting any of the details in my sculptures.
I actually thought the sculpt looked wider and shorter than your sketch, Kelda. Maybe I'm just crazy.
Did some computer sketches at lunch...maybe some direction for color placement?
Just some ideas...

Wow Pearlie Mae! What do you use to make your design colours?
Some more refinements to the fluke, added texture...the for additional gems well be molded separately and added later:

Oh sorry, I meant what program you use to do computer sketches? Like to fill in their designs with the colours? It looks amazing!
(Just found your instagram btw, sorry you're about to get a million likes on things ;) )
Oh! I just use Photoshop. I'm a photographer and art director. Been using Photoshop for ages...I was a beta tester once upon a time.
(These sketches aren't representative of my best work, however! )
*le sigh* much too complicated for me, I guess I'll stick to nail polish ;P You are a woman of many talents Pearlie Mae!
Okay, here's where I'm at right now.
I found this picture, and I love it:

So I put it on my tail:

I love these scale colours and I think they work as a more teal version of the above image:

But I also love all of these colours:

So I tried to isolate just the ones that would fit for the image (blues, some purple tones):

But that leaves out all of these (including the teal ones which are my favourites):

Which are super beautiful and look like a galaxy on their own! I mean, look at the top 8 - they're all sparkly and fabulous and crystalline. I love them to death.
HOW DO I CHOOOOSSSEEEEE
So, which ones did you eliminate completely?
These ones circled here (not because they're not beautiful, mind you!):

The yellow one with the arrow pointing to it I changed to a more beige colour in my scale layouts, because I thought I saw similar colours here, unless it's just the light (I'd really rather you don't have to pour more colours than you already have!):

Okay! I'm going to study this a while...
If you can do something similar to the photo, but with all of the scale colours I included, that would be fantastic. Whatever you think will work! :)
I'm pinning scales into place right now! :yay:
Hey! Do you want me to work those teal-related scales in the back of the tail?
If you think it will work! Honestly I'd be happy if they were included anywhere at all :) I don't mind if some scales only appear a few times - they can be like galaxies in the distance ;)
Just place them however looks best!
I'm still pinning...Will have a new configuration to show later this afternoon! (It's just after lunchtime here, now.)
We're getting there!
Hooray! I can't wait to see!
More scales are curing, waiting to be pulled, finished and pinned, to make the transitions smoother... this is the front:

If they are too purple-y, I can go more teal, instead.
The back has a few in their general areas, just to get an idea of where the colors are going to go.
Attachment 28654
The colors are more intense in real life - it was early and cloudy when I shot these.
I love how even the rows are
AAahaaAAAAaaHHh yes yes yes! I love it! I wouldn't mind a bit more teal in there, but don't compromise the purple either, it's beautiful! <3
We are on the right track, then? :yay:
I was thinking about your fluke...I could do it dark, like your comp, and blend colors and glitters to look like a galaxy, with a sweeping swirl of holographic glittering stars (not literally star shaped) across it.
What do you think?
:thinks:
Yes! Definitely on the right track!
As for the fluke, I think that'd look stunning! Would it be possible to have little galaxies in the gems, too? Something similar to this, maybe?
Attachment 28663
Yes! I could totally do that!
:cheerleader:
Oh look! Easter eggs that go with your tail!
Attachment 28738
Those are neat.
Gorgeous!
Wow...a lot of new scales poured and now that these are pinned into place, I am making some more to make the transitions smoother.
I grabbed a couple of shots with my phone this morning, but it was raining and the light was crap. You have to see it in the sunlight! I will post better shots in full sun, with the good camera as soon as the weather breaks!
Attachment 29124
I'm going to make the fluke mold this week, the four gems on the bottom of the fluke are being cast separately and will be added, rather than cast the whole thing at once, in case they turn out to be problematic. Fins and top to follow!
Edits? Changes? Do you want the tail to be darker overall, like the galaxy shot in the comp?
Attachment 29125
Pearlie, you're fantastic. You're basically pulling off the silicone equivalent of sequin tails and you're innovative and just great. After goofing around with caulking in one of my spare molds, it's hitting me how many hours of work these art pieces take and I'm just so impressed with you. AND YOURE DOING TWO RIGHT NOW! Just wow. Ok I'm done gushing now
