The Happy Thread!

I went swimming today for the first time all summer. It's just too hot and crowded at the pool during the summer, and the lanes are only available during the Sunburn Hours of Death, so autumn to spring is my swim season. It felt so good to be in the water again! I got some neoprene socks for my Finis foil, and it really helped, but I still swam until I got a blister! Gotta toughen up my feet! I love that when I got back, my husband asks me if my scales feel refreshed :)

Also, the aquatic center also has a fitness center, and I found out there's a ballet class with a $6 drop-in at a time when I could actually take it! It's a beginner class, and I'm far from a beginner, but I love taking the beginner classes to really perfect technique. I found a ballet class! Yay!

I got to be a mermaid at a local pirate event and this fun photo edit of me was put up on the Facebook page!

So mind you all that my family still doesn't know about my enthusiam for all things merpeople. Well mylittle sister has apparently expressed to our mother that for Christmas this year she wants her own real life mermaid tail. My mother is completely down for this and is planning to buy one from Ebay. I am super jealous and proud (guess this mer-love runs in the family) and i am holding in my compulsion to hand over a list of tail makers to my mother to give her some options lol Ofcourse, being male, ive pretty nuch always kept my love of merpeople in from my rather dull family and have been plotting to save money and buy my own tail without anyone knowing. So it just makes me happy tgat my sister will be able to live the dream ive wantwd to since i was her age.
Im debating if i myself should buy it for her. Shes 8. And im still trying to decide if i should go with the much cheaper and safer fabric tail....or go all out and get a cheap silicone one. What say you guys?

Silicone tails are not for beginners, and they're so expensive that it doesn't make sense to get one for an 8-year-old who will quickly grow out of it. Go for fabric. There are beautiful fabric tails and she'll have more fun being a mermaid without having to deal with the upkeep and hassle of a silicone tail. Also, I think it would be super sweet if you got your lil sis a tail!

If you're talking about one for yourself, I say go for a fabric one asap and keep saving for a silicone one. I know I want a silicone tail, but I also know that I will still get or make a fabric tail for travel and ease.

It rained all night and most of the day :) I love walking in the rain =D

SeaMansa that is so cool that your sister wants a mermaid tail! Are you going to tell her you are a merman?

I am so excited we went to Jo-Ann fabrics today (just to see if they had a certain type of fabric paint) and they had some beautiful spandex that was 40% off and I got some for a new fabric tail! I wasn't even planning on getting more tail fabric hehe. The new fabric is pretty crazy colorful (it is rainbow tye dye with holographic oil slick looking dots everywhere). Honestly I love bright, colorful things and I do have a lot of bright clothes that I wear but I am not sure yet if this fabric will translate well into a tail because it is so color crazy. We shell sea! ;)

My husband and I took our daughter to the beach for the first time. She had a blast splashing around in the ocean and shell collecting with me. When we were there we each took a turn watching her so I could test my monofin and my husband could test his flippers. I learned two things when it was my turn. I am positively buoyant and I am not very graceful in two feet of water. The beach we were at was mainly meant for snorkeling so I didn't expect a perfect test run but I felt like I learned a lot. My husband loves his flippers. He went on in the car about how he still couldn't believe how fast he went.

Good point on both ends. I've been looking into nice fabric tails and trying to see which will be the best for her in terms of color and shades. I know that it really wont matter but it warms my heart so I just wasn't to get her a dream tail of her own.
And I should very well get my own fabric tail to get used to it before getting a silicone one.

You can always say you would like one too, just so you can learn and then teach her how to use it safely, and that she has someone to go swim (if they're not inclined to you being a merman). Start with fabric, then move up ^_^

I completely second this opinion. :D

I had my first echo today and it was wonderful! I saw it's little heart beat and its arms and legs move. :yay:
She said that I'm 11 weeks pregnant and that my due date is 7 May :D

I was in class and my friend turned around and told me that she was talking with one of her friends about me and when she mentioned that I am a mermaid, her friend said she was one too and she started asking questions about me. Now my friend is telling me I should have mermaid cards to hand out so that people can help me network with other mers. I am super stoked to know of another mermaid. :)

Maybe I should actually make mermaid business cards... ?
