Rapid problem
So, my friend bought a Finis Rapid and after a few swims the footpockets have nearly torn off the fin. Like, the foot pockets have ripped right off. I've never heard of this happening before. My friend is contacting Finis, but he bought it on Ebay so I'm not sure if it will be replaced.
Has anyone dealt with this problem before? Is there a good way to put new footpockets on a Rapid?

I have a Rapid as well but I have never heard of the foot pockets ripping off. Now my foot pockets look like the sides have squeesed in, but not like your friends. I'm stll tring to figure out how to fix mine. Is there a way for you to get pictures? I find it alittle hard to believe they ripped off. It is strong rubber an it would take some force to pull apart. Now I am not saying I don't believe you but finding it hard to believe they ripped off.

Mine tore off after about three years of hard use. I used a vegetable oil to help slip them on, so I can't see that degrading the rubber, but they tore right where they were connected to the hard plastic/rubber of the fin.
Edited to add: They began to tear right at the big toe, then the arch of the right pocket separated from the fin, then they ripped along the entire instep. The fin eventually cracked across at the ball of my feet. This was just from swimming.

Yeah, these tears started at the toe, then the rip moved back. the left pocket is almost completely off, the right one is about half-ripped. He's swum in the fin only two or three times, he just got it last week.
I'll try to get pics, but as it isn't my fin I'll have to ask my friend if he'll take a couple.

Sounds like maybe the fin sat around a long time and the rubber dry-rotted...I replaced the ankle strap a couple of times because it dried out so badly.
I hope you can get it resolved from Finis. Maybe they'll replace it anyway.

If your friend buys one-inch flathead nails they could nail the pockets back on from the inside(so its a flat metal disk under the feet, not the nail tips..) and bend and cut the bits of the nails that come out the other side. You'd want to pre-drill SMALL holes first though, since driving a nail strait though FINIS's material would send cracks everywhere.....
