Donating To Toys For Tots

Something that I have really gotten into over the past couple years that has made me feel good and given my life meaning is I've made it my personal mission to donate as many toys as I can afford to to my local chapter of Toys For Tots, a charity that provides needy children with toys at holiday time. Year round, I clip coupons and shop around for the best sales at big box stores on toys to donate, and I try to look for toys that have pretty good play value. I have always loved dolls and toys, so I believe in the importance of children having toys to keep them busy, exercise their motor skills, and encourage their imagination. Year round I collect toys and finally deliver them to my local supermarket, which is a Toys For Tots collection center. I call it "harvest time", as the toy collection gets bigger and bigger throughout the year, like a crop growing until it's finally ready for harvest. I love loading up a shopping cart with the toys I've collected! Just wish I can see the kids' happy faces on Christmas morning as they receive their brand-new Barbie or Lego set or Hot Wheels set which they would've have had if it wasn't for me :)

I love donating the kind of toys I loved as a kid, but really I donate all kinds of toys, the only thing I draw the line at buying for Toys For Tots are realistic toy guns or anything too violent

This is wonderful! When I was in high school, we had a school-wide collection for Toys for Tots. It was really great.

The greenie in me does feel a tad guilty sometimes buying so many cheap plastic toys made in China, but my goal is to donate as many toys as I can every year, so I just buy whatever's on sale, where the more eco-friendly toys are usually more expensive...

This year's crop of Toys For Tots under my awesome Disneyland-themed Xmas tree(yep, in honor of DL's 60th anniversary I divided it into eight sections that represent the eight lands of Disneyland complete with ornaments that fit each land's theme)

actually my family gets our christmas trees cuz of toys for tots.
we dont get it from the charity itself but there is a donation center that will give you a free tree if you donate to thier toys for tots collection. so we always make sure we buy enough toys that is worth the same amout as a tree

I filled up the donation box this year

At Kmart, they have a Christmas Wishing Tree. There are no names on the tags, just a list of check boxes with, Grandma, Grandpa, Mum, Dad and Child - Age.

I buy the presents during the year, when they have the sales on. Then at Christmas time, I grab the tags off the tree, wrap up the pressies and put them in the box that's near the tree. I have been doing this for nearly 10 years now.

With the Grand parents ones, I buy things that they would use like soap, nice mugs, or edibles that have low sugar and fat. Generally, what MY Grandma would want/eat.

For the kids, I buy those fancy lunchboxes that have their own cooler bags and drink bottles.

And for the parents, I get vouchers that they can take their family to a nice restaurant or shopping vouchers for the local shopping centre.

I also make my own Christmas cards to go with the pressies.

Everyone here is so awesome. This thread here is probably up there with the tail ones for making me feel the happiest. :3
