Let's make a tail ^o^
Hey,
this will be my first mermaid-/mermantail and I want to make it on my own ^w^
It will be all out of fabric and I decided, that the main colour will be blue... but thats the only thing I am really sure about :D (there are soooo many different shapes for the fins and so many extra colours you can add so im not sure which one will be perfekt for me)
Since my summer vacation is near, I decided to make my tail during this long period of time I don't have anything to do :p
I found some wonderful shell-sequins which totally look like scales... http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=...cheln&_sacat=0
they sell them in two different sizes and a few different colours. I don't know if i will use them because it will be very hard and time-robbing to sew them all on the tail. But maybe i can glue them on with superglue or silicone.
Otherwise i will paint the whole tail ^^
The monofin will be made by myself out of a polycarbonate-sheet. It is cheaper than buying one (in Germany they mostly are expensive ).
The first sketch I made was inspired by Hannah Mermaid because I fell in love with her tail when i was a young child and I still like the look of the fluke. http://www.hannahfraser.com/mermaid/...6&elementid=20

I also want to make a top. It will be made of fabric. One opportunity is to attach the scales on it or to add shells and starfish and netting on it :p:$
I hope I can start soon and can make the tail of my dreams ^-^

I would highly recommend sewing the sequins on, if you decide to go with sequins. Glue or silicone isn't going to be as sturdy and you'll be losing sequins all over the place! If you search for "sequin tail", you'll find lots of threads here in the forum by other mer who have made sequin tails, they'll be full of useful information for you. Same for painted tails, lots of good resources and tutorials to help you avoid some common mistakes.
Making your own monofin! Ambitious! I hope you'll post lots of pictures of your process. :)

I hope so too ^w^ mostly I forget to take pictures or to film the process ( same when I style my wigs :D)
I hope it will work without drilling and using screws
i foud a glue which is said to be very strong and flexible. It's worth a try I guess ^^
if if doesnt work I can use screws then ^^

Depending on your shoe-size, you can buy a Triton (small), a Hydra (medium) or a Minos (large): http://www.scubastore.com/scuba-divi...ns/1081/s#ajax <= it's a company in Europe and are quite cheap for a very good monofin (I have a Triton and I love it) ;)

Magictail also sells the Hydra monofins. They are in Germany, so that might be cheaper shipping than from the other one.

I decided to buy the Oceanica Merfin since I saved up a lot of money (helping out job in a bakery ;)). I already created a pattern and tried it out with a spandex like bedsheet . It fits nearly perfect. It just needs a little adjustment in the knee area . I'm so sorry that I have been inactive lately, but times were hard for me and at the moment I have to take the final exams... but I'm already excited.

Good news and ad news... my Merfin Arrived 2 days ago and yesterday I went to the pool with a GoPro.
Well... good dthing was that they had nothing against my fabric tail. Bad thing was that they had something against the camera ... -.-''.
Swiming with the monofin itself was so much fun. It was so easy and I love to be underwater with it. But with my fabric tail it was so harb to move underwater. I think one possible reason for it is the fact, that my fluke is so big and flowy, just like the tail of a Betta splendens... and i haven't used bathing suit material. I used chiffon and a stretching fabric. So the tail was pretty heavy and the long fluke needed so much energy. So I will have to sew a new one more usable. But i still want a pic with me in my first tail underwater since it looks so amazing when it moves. Attachment 37134Attachment 37135
