ohmygoodness I am absolutely IN LOVE with that silver koi at the top! <3
Wow. Those fish are cool
Seriously that white koi on the top is really beautiful~
He's a butterfly gin matsuba.
I like the 4th picture, of the flowy gold fish, pretty :D
Cool.I've been thinking about either a betta or koi styled tail.
I have koi but nothing too fancy,I got them at a fin farm nearby and I have no idea what they're called, other than koi and butterfly koi. I love watching them swim,it's so relaxing.
Koi are fun, I used to raise, breed, and show.
Oh goodness
I adore koi.
I hope to get some one day soon, and make a koi tail as well!
Here are my babies, They are Butterfly Koi and still little. Though you cant see their tails well but they have an amazing pair of fins lol i've had them since they were an inch long, their about 5 inches now. Aries is my Gray one he has shades of faded black on his fins, Draco is the gold one, he has a white tail, he is also my hubby's koi. Below is Aries and under that is Aries and draco.

Gorgeous. I have one similar in colour to the gold one. I have a yellow one with an orange spot, another white one and an orange and white one, those are the only butterflies I have. I have about a dozen, they're all about 15 years old. They live in a 1/3 acre pond on our property,it's pretty deep, 20 feet or more so they over winter pretty well and have grown to about 3 feet so far. I had a gorgeous white one with a red spot on his head, but a heron got him...
I have another one ,all white with a red face, he's my oldest, almost 17, four years ago is face started to loose pigment and now it's a slight pink colour. Had to get piccies now since it's getting warmer and they've stirred up the water...
The first on in your second post is beautiful! particularly the tail.
So I started out with the color pallet of a rainbow salmon, worked up a sketch in high school, got the funding in college, stubbled through several color swatches and ended up with a different aesthetic.
Pretty, rainbow salmon is confusing. I like the tail a lot! Rainbow trout and steelhead are actually the same thing just with different morphologies, but offspring of one can give rise to either or both kinds of babies.
I saw this on facebook recently and had to show everybody, it is from a Promotion for the movie "Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid", Tampa, 1948 but I love how she looks and love the fact we can find mermaids done from long before most of us were even thought of Attachment 2396
Merpirate, That's awesome!
Is there any info on how the tail was made?
I haven't found any yet but I'm looking
The tank looks like it says Weeki Wachee on the bottom corner. Curious... Wasn't part of that movie filmed at Weeki Wachee?
All of the underwater scenes were filmed at Weeki Wachee, it's a great movie!
i love watching the movies filmed from there because when i go scuba diving there i can see where they filned everything. btw, the castle is really cool to be in! its got air in there but its not the best so we couldnt stay in there for too long. it also has a smallish platform that is out of the water so you can sit and stay somewhat warm! its awesome!
Mermaid Lulu- I love that scale style, LOVE it. Is it yours?
Waow Coradion, I love the gin Matsuba. That Silver Koi is amazing, it looks like a real prize winner, it's a very inspirational picture.
here's mine: Attachment 2922
I love the tail being WAAAAY to big in comparison to the rest but I love these kind of pictures. Someday I hope to make a tail that has the fluke being to long :-) *sigh*
Since someone asked how it was made, here are photos I've collected of the Mr. Peabody & the Mermaid tail construction:

Apparently the tail was extremely tight and hard to get on/take off. I'm not sure if it was given to Weeki Wachee after the movie, but this mer seems to be wearing what looks suspiciously like the Lenore tail:

I really like the basic stripes on the sheepshead fish.

The fact that they have human like teeth... makes them seem like a proto-mer experiment. :p
I love simple patterns like the fish you posted. There's something to be said for subdued beauty.
I love getting inspired from actual legit fish!
The tail im currently working toward is based on the Calico kelp bass.
LOVE this fish!
