Minneapolis might be a good place for a gathering at a big motel or something. Otherwise we could do one near the great lakes. Duluth maybe? :) I'm just thinking north because a lot of the gatherings are down on the coasts where young mers like me can't go to meet everyone. We should try to include as many mers in our gatherings as we can. Just an idea.
How about somewhere near Dallas, Texas?
Dallas might be a little far for someone near the great lakes. Personally I think everyone should aim to have numerous local gatherings. There are definitely enough people in the Dallas area for a meetup.
Yeah I was sorta thinking something a little more local :) I don't know how many people would be able to make it to Minneapolis either, I know I personally wouldn't be able to.
Perhaps we could get together at a park lake and swim/do a photo shoot? Perhaps Kensington Metro Park?
That's great for the Michigan mers but I'm thinking it would be an awfully long drive for everyone else. I just don't know what would be a good middle ground for everymer.
If we can keep the gathering near michigan I would love to come. I won't be able to get to Wisconisin, and any where other than North Illinios or Ohio I can't get to.
I was figuring North Illinios or Ohio as that looks like a nice solid middle ground for everyone, and for all the Michigan mers I would happily offer my beetle up for carpooling.
We might be able to make Northern Ohio, Indiana or southern Michigan.
I could do that as well, anyone else?
Lava Hot Springs? I know, I'm the only one that close to it, but its a cute little resort.

I would only be free on the weekends, but also depends on how far it will be from me.
Same, I think it really all comes down to how far away it would be for everyone. It's hard to figure out a fair middle ground when I have no idea where in the Great Lakes you all are floating. Perhaps if there was a general understanding of where everymer lived (just the largest town to you) that would help. Example I could say Ann Arbor because it's the closest large city to where I live.

It would be nice to find a place and time to get together. I'm getting my wife a tail for her birthday, but I'm afraid the only way she'll try it out is if there are a lot of Mers there too supporting her.

I can make it to Lexington, Kentucky though it's a 6 hour drive so I'll have to stay somewhere. Perhaps those of use who live out of state could split the cost of a room and make it a two day (ish) event before having to drive back to our respective homes.
Unfortunately, public pools are the only places to swim here. The closest lake with a decent beach is Cave Run Lake, about an hour east of here.
Lake St. Marys in Ohio would be a good central location. I remember it had nice beaches, but it's been many years since last I visited. I only know about it since I was born there.
I live in Duluth, so I probably wouldn't be able to make it a one day event. I'd be using public transportation to get to you guys. The farthest I've been away from home on my own is Milwaukee. Is that decently close to a good place for a meet? Seems like its far enough south, but perhaps not enough east... Hm. I'm really not good at geography so I'm busy looking at maps of the US, trying to figure out a general idea of where you all are suggesting. xD

You might want to consider adding a survey to this thread to find out what dates and places are best for everyone. You can also post survey questions on the pod of the great lakes Facebook page to get info on who would be available.
Isn't it Cincinatti Ohio that's an hour plane ride for 2/3 of the USA or something? Maybe that would be a good place, or somewhere around there...
I could do Lake St. Mary's. If I came down and stayed with family in Detroit; then made the drive. That way it is only three hours. From where I live it would be five hours, so that kinda drive would have to be a two day trip.

Hey guys sorry I came into this convo a little late :p but I live in the Chicago area and there are tons of places to go here in the summer (saying this because I don't know how to get very many places still being in high school and my parents will most likely not want to drive any farther then south Michigan.
I dont live in the great lake area or anything but im going to be there this summer and i would love to attend a get together...ill be there for the last two weeks of august..:) it would be fun..would i be the youngest there? 14?!

So I can't make any meet-up b/c I will be working in Glen arbor (near sleeping bear dunes) every week this summer from thursday evening to monday morning. :(
on a side note: if anyone is going to be near sleeping bear and traverse city (sp?) this summer- I would be willing to hang. :)
