I am making a silicone tail this summer and I really need some answers... How did he cast the tails in two parts but end up with no seams? Do these tails have mono fins in them or are they just foot pockets? how do foot pockets compare to mono fin tails in regards to swimming (speed and strength),comfort, and realism?
As far as seams, he's just an incredible special effects artist. There's no fast answers. And no they don't have monofins. It's really a personal preference. Monofins can be any range of flexibility and allow for good propulsion, no monofin is flowey and not efficient. I think a stiff fluke is more realistic but others disagree. There are also tons of silicone tail tutorials here if you search.

You would have to ask him, but I'm fairly sure its a trade secret and I don't think he would share. It all boils down to experience.
