    Pools in The UK.

    Hey Everyone,

So recently I bought a monofin and had been using it in my local pool, but recently they have decided that I can no longer use my fin as it is a 'Health and Safety' risk to myself and others. So I ask this question: How did you guys get/find a pool that allowed you to use your tails and fins? I've tried calling the pools that are run by our local council but they all refuse the use of fins.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
I wanna be where the mermaids are, I wanna see, wanna see them twirling
Swimming around with those, What do you call 'em?
    Oh, fins.

Is there a friend of a friend that can assist you in being able to borrow their pool? I know this is your last resort as the UK is fairly cold to swim is the beaches, hopefully by summer you might be able to swim.

That's totally harsh that you've been prohibited like that

Unfortunately, not very many people in the UK have personal pools unless they are high earners. The rules of health and safety here truly suck

My group use a hotel pool that are okay with us using tails and sometimes entertaining their guests but using a hotel pool isn't cheap if you wanted to swim daily.

How much does it cost you guys to use the hotel, if you don't mind me asking?

It's £10 a time, we can use the pool for as long as we like since there isn't any real closing times for it, it's very clean, less 'gritty' than public pools and we get to use their steam room and sauna and hot tub, plus don't need to bring a towel, they supply them for us. It's very handy for my group since we can relax after a full work out in the tails and we tend to stay at the pool for over 3-6 hours at a time anyway but don't do it daily, normally once every 2 weeks since most of us have events on and just want a private swim with the group. We don't get put into a lane at the pool we go to. So, we can swim freely about and it's great for mini photoshoots and for little children that happen to be there to interact with us better.

My local council run pool charges me £6.50 for an hour in my own lane, they don't let me swim without a private lane

Can I ask how you went about asking them as I've challenged my local council. I've basically said that now mermaiding is a sport, they need to get with the times and accommodate for people who want to swim in monofins and tails. It's going really slowly lol

So I guess you just contacted the hotel to ask? Summer, how did you find out about paying for a lane? My council pool hasn't said anything about an arrangement like that

I contacted them about mermaiding and they looked into the rules and they only allow fins if you have your own lane.

Summer can you get a copy of this somehow? I need to put this to my council. Which is the pool that allow you to do this so I can put it to my local council too. Thanks

Yes, I contacted them and they said sure, gave us a day to try out the pool free of charge and after that they happily called the group their 'castle mermaids'. We have good standing with them since my family knew/ have worked there before but my group is family... A very large pod if you'd say.

(Excuse my language) But they are getting on my last fucking nerve. I called them to complain about being thrown out of the pool, they told me that my fin IS allowed so I went the other day. No dice. Make your minds up!

Maybe find out if there are some pools that host free divers and scuba training sessions ?

I'd do this as well. My freediving group gets a whole lane to ourselves, with the rest of the pool for scubas.
There's still enough room to swim around in the rest of the pool though, you just got to look where you're going to avoid the scuba divers.
There might be some finswimming groups around as well.

I'm chasing some pools at the moment, they're not very deep but it's enough for practice
