I'm here, though technically, I'm not in the Great Lakes region. It was the closest pod to me when I joined and I decided to stay.

Maybe we can meet up some time this summer I was planning on driving out to Lake Michigan to celebrate my birthday with a ton of friends!

Meeting would be great! My family also has a lot of rentals up in Leelanau and Glen Arbor. There are houses on Lake Michigan and also on both Glen Lakes.

Isn't lake Michigan like...poisonous or something? My best friend had to move to Milwaukee last year and he lives in whitefish bay, right by the shore. He says the lake is rancid, reeks of dead fish, and has a lot of gunk floating in it. I'd move to Milwaukee to get an apartment with him, but the lake is the one thing that's keeping me away.

Lake Michigan is a HUGE lake, similar to the ocean in how parts of it can be very dirty and parts can be pristine. Personally I've been several times to several different locations and every time was absolutely wonderful.

I have been to Indiana Dunes 2 times and only saw the lake from the beach, but one thing I do know is there are sharks in lake michigan.

Although it is certainly possible for there to be sharks (only Bull Sharks) in Lake Michigan the probability is exceptionally small. With the original odds being, if you are a beach goer you have a 1 in 11.5 million chance of getting attacked by a shark. I would assume that getting attacked in the great lakes would double those odds if only by way of only one species could make it to the lake, it would have to actually find it's way to the lake through channels and water ways, and it would actually have to be near the shore near where you are (which considering it has a 1,638 mile long shoreline). Over all I would say your odds of getting attacked would be so slim you should be more worried about quick sand.
