Thread: Stupid Boobs.

  1. #1

    Stupid Boobs.

Yup. Exactly what it sounds like. Hahaha
I'm working on my neoprene-sequin tail at the moment and have had my matching top done since last summer. But having worn it a couple times both my mother and I have noticed how it makes my already 38C boobs look bigger and adds a lot more cleavage. Hahaha
I'm sure there are a lot of mers here who understand my problem. See I'm 16, pretty slim (I say with some confidence in myself), 5'5 with 38C boobs. I mean it's hard enough finding dresses and crap to fit in the right places, but now I'm having the difficulty in finding something to cover up my cleavage. Lol! I love my top and do not one to take it all apart to make a new one AT ALL! So the obvious choice is like a shimmery, nude colored tule fabric in between the cups. How does that sound? Any advice, ideas, suggestions...? Thanks lovelies.
P.S.: I can post a picture of my top in the morning if that'd help anybody. 🐳

The nude fabric sounds like a good idea, whatever makes you feel comfortable in your top go for it.

ROFL yeah, 36D momma over here feels your pain. Cute little seashells just ain't gonna hold these babies. And I spent an hour looking for a swim top where putting my arms into a diving pose wouldn't get me kicked out of the pool for flashing...

But to answer your question, yes! I sew in a triangle of sparkly fabric as a cleavage coverup with all my bikini tops. It looks great.

Thank you guys! I'll definitely try it. Hopefully it comes out well. I'll go take a picture of right now and I'll post one when the fabric is on.

Try using a pair of capesio dance toghts for the material. It's stretchy and holds up great in water and if you like you can even sew or glue sequins to it. That's part of how I made my sequin top.

The only thing about tights/hose fabric is it usually can tear pretty easily. I have some stuff on my top that it could snag on. Hold on let me see if I can post that picture. Hahaha

Here we go. It has my color scheme of my upcoming Cotton Candy tail (plus the nude color for the waistline) in sequins, netting, pearls, shark teeth (that we actually found on the beach, we have quite the collection ), some greenery, and a starfish. And it's a cross halter top so the netting straps cross over my chest and tie at the back of my neck. In between the cups is where I need coverage haha.

Oof. That is a beautiful top. The nude tule would probably work really well.
But I have to gloat. 34 B for the win!

As a dude I don't understand this problem at all. Just wanted to ask, would it be possible to make a top out of a sports bra? Also, are sports bras uncomfortable for women? If they aren't it seems like they would be a godsend for women with big boobs.

The trouble is support vs comfort. Sports bras tend to mash bewbies together, making what is affectionately known as 'uniboob'...Sports bras are meant to keep everything from bouncing painfully during sport and exercise, not real concerned with aesthetics. They don't have underwires, which are needed for definition and separation. The band that goes around the chest is the foundation for support, the shoulder straps aren't supposed to bear the weight of the breasts, but it's fairly common to buy the wrong size bra. The combinations of chest sizes and cup sizes make for a dizzying array, especially when you factor in style.

No wonder free-range mermaids prefer to go topless!

Sports bras compress a lot which isn't comfortable for many, or a look everyone wants. They're a godsend all right, but properly fitting ones can seriously break the bank as well.

*sigh* a sports bra that would fit me would probably be like 80 bucks... I mean, one that would WORK. i could buy one thats just elastic but that isnt going to do anything.
This is why i dont run even when they do fit, i get sweaty boobs. so fun.

And I think some nude fabric could work. or just the netting, you can sew in greenery or sequins or pearls That cup shape can definitely add some bewbiness and putting some nice drapey fabric could be really pretty.
(this is a personal question so bear with me) A 38 band size is pretty big, i mean it all depends on the shape of your ribcage, but for a 16 year old who is slim (and based on your picture) , I want to say that you might be in the wrong size bra if you measure around your chest under your breasts, that is your band size. this is the reason that i cut the straps off old bras to make mermaid tops, it actually makes them fit better when I make them tie in the back. Sorry i got off topic.. I'm so passionate about bra sizes now that I've been fitted properly. (30 E/F and I used to obstinately wear a 34 DD) And if you are in fact wearing the right size, my apologies! bra sizes are stupid. and hard to gauge.

Underwire bras are much better for you. They don't bounce around or try to escape the premises...
Modern bras are now made with quick drying materials.

There's Wesley, Pearlie! Haha! But yeah, I am in fact wearing the right size unfortunately. The women in my family have larger/wider rib cages sadly. So that plays a huge, annoying factor in my size. Lol But in the case of my problem with my mer top, it is just the cup/boobage that is my problem. Haha And I don't know why I never though of adding a crap ton of bedazzlements to that area on the netting. Great idea. I might try that out. Thanks. Hahaha If that doesn't work I can always do the nude fabric.

Everyone else, I only like sports bras (like many women) for exercise. I play soccer, so a lot bounces. Lol. And I have a few comfy one that I wear when I don't want to wear a regular bra or a sports bra. Haha. But like the fellow females have stated, they aren't the most aesthetically pleasing as well as you'd have to use a lot of resources to cover it to make it look mermaid-y hahaha. But thanks everyone for the input. This is really helping my brain flow.

I had the exact same thought! A lot of stores don't measure properly either. Back pre-reduction I wore a 38DDD for a long time, because that's what I could find that (sort of) fit. Then I got fitted at a specialty lingerie store (not a department or chain store) and found out I was actually a 34H!
