    Hybrid Tail Questions

Is it possible to cast very thin scale sheets and put them over holographic spandex? Also, do you put a layer of silicone inside of the tail for hybrid tails?

For the scale sheet question, here is my scale sheet

Hi Kelly! I just finished a Hybrid tail. If you cast a silicone sheet of scales and put it on top of the holographic fabric it is almost the same as lining the scale sheet with powermesh which a lot of tail makers do for added strength when creating a full silicone tail. Even a pretty thin silicone cast of scales will probably obscure most of the holographic luminosity of the fabric. I assume you are using Dragonskin?

    Nice scale mold, btw.

I thought Smooth-On sold an ultra clear silicone that stayed clear when it cured. You could email them. Some mers have had success using iridescent organza encased in silicone for fins and some of the shimmer comes through. It has to be pretty thin though. Good luck!

Platinum silicone is never completely clear.

Smooth-on does carry a completely clear platinum cure silicone, however it will not work for tail-making applications. It is not flexible or stretchable, and is meant for electronics.

Does anyone know if their clear silicone will bond with dragon skin?
