You can cut the foam with a serrated knife (like a steak knife or similar) and just remove the extra bits.

Yikes! I've worked with that stuff before and it's not fun to wrestle once dry. Sorry about that. But your scales look ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I can already tell your tail is going to be 50 shades of fintastic! I see so many people make beautiful silicone creations and it tempts me to try my hand at it.
But that's a different venture down the road once I've already got my first silicone tail and the boyfriend and I have relocated and yadda yadda yadda.
Until then, I'll live vicariously through you.

There's a not completely full part in the middle. And it got me frustrated for awhile. I'm not sure yet how I'll fix it.

HOWEVER I went ahead and placed what I have on the form after I got the bits off. It's far from final placement. And I couldn't get the video to attach so I'm linking it

I just love it! It looks so magical. Haha, I can't wait to see what it's going to look like in the end. I wonder how heavy it will be also, as the scales look a little thick?

  5. #65
I imagine it will be heavy due to my design on the scales

    Thank you kindly
I have more "in between" shades to do and still a bazillion more scales, lol
But seeing some on the form sure helps! -even if the form needs help

Beautiful!! I love how this looks so far. Those scales are definitely looking pretty thick. Bound to be a heavy tail...

Silicone isn't heavy in water so don't worry about sinking, it's slightly floaty! It'll be the carrying it around part that will be heavy. But pretty <3

Yeah, My tail is kinda heavy out of water, but in water it's kinda floaty! Maybe you could get a little back back or wheels or a sled type deal. lol. Or a mer handler to do all the hard work for you

This is so incredibly beautiful. What resin did you use for your mold?

For some reason your scales remind me of gummy candy... I don't think thats a bad thing though.

A few different resins, they were from Michaels. I don't have the box. But it's hard clear resin.

While at work (call center) I've been cleaning out another mold. So I can make more scales daily. I thought I'd be done before the silicone got here but I was dragging my feet. And this one had lots of bubbles. I think I can save it by filling in the bubbles with resin once cleared out.
