    Sequin and silicone hybrid tails

I'm trying to figure out making a tail that will be predominantly neoprene and sequins with a silicone fluke something like Kariel's hybrid tails.
I have some ideas of my own but I wanted to put it out there to anyone who has tried it or might know - how would one go about attaching a silicone fluke to a neoprene tail?

I plan on doing this in the future too. I have a few ideas, but sil-poxy aka clear 100% silicone caulking sticks to neoprene and silicone I am pretty sure.

I just finished making one! I left the sequined neoprene skin separate from the silicone fluke so I can slide into the leg part and then get the fluke on a little easier. I put Velcro at the bottom of the neoprene and the top of the fluke so it doesn't fly up when I'm swimming. Makes wiggling in a little easier too!

We make this hybrid tails way earlier than Kariel and I must admit that having the body separate from the fluke really worried me and Alexander!

So we decided to glue the fluke on the inside of the body and it seems to work well.

But thinking about it now I was wondering if it was possible to let silicone cure with the base of the neoprene inside, it would give it the look of a solid piece what do you mers think?

Mermaid Wesley - yes I had thought of sil-poxy and wondered if it would work with neoprene....
Mermaid Kassandra - that was my orginal thought actually - to have to silicone over the neoprene base but I thought that as the silicone sunk in to the fabric and can into contact with the neoprene rubber - if it would then prevent curing...?

That's right platinum cure silicone can't cure in contact with neoprene

Kassandra, what did you glue with?

I'm not sure I have to ask to Alexander but if I am not wrong he managed to develop a particular formula of dragonskin with our distributor (he met with smoothon specifically for that) of silicone that is able to stick to neoprene (the one used for divers suits as we use that kind of neoprene),

but silpoxy should work as well as that one (we decided to go for a particular formula as we wanted to be 100% sure that silicone and neoprene would stay together).

Anyway before adopting this method we used to sew the body on the fluke, the only disadvantaged of doing that is that you need to be extra careful while handling or putting on the tail as the sewed part of the silicone fluke can be cut.

Awesome. Never thought you could see silicone...

    Yes you can!

We called them and explained what we wanted to do telling them that ordinary dragonskin doesn't cure and they suggested to Alexander to develop a new formula that would suit our work.

You should try to talk to your distributors and see if they can do the same thing for you!

Here in Italy they say that we can meet with them whenever we need and they also organize some seminars where they explain you how to work with silicone and some other techniques.

    It's really helpful!

That would be really handy. However I can seem to get in contact with my distributor at the moment.

Yes you may try to wait after the Christmas holidays as usually they go on vacation or they're super busy with work! 😐
