I've just added several more US schools to the list. I hope this is useful to someone. As always let me know if you know of any I've missed or want to edit something!

Here's another one to add to the list - they emailed me asking for a shoutout and I said I'll post the link here

Please add my school:
SelkieMermaid School, Vermont http://selkiemermaid.com/
There's a dutch school called meermin school I think, by mermaid Crystal if I remember correctly
Mermaid Riia does children's mermaid classes, I think it's new-ish. Can't pop in any links right now but maybe you could look it up
she believed she could, so she did

I found the dutch mermaiding school!
I did a mermaid course and it was fab! Though I'm curious as on our course there was no demonstration on how to remove the tail, nor were we told to practise in a monofin before we started. I had never seen a monofin or tail before and they literally said 'put it on and get in!'
Not sure if mermaid courses should normally be a bit more safe than that - having said that it was a fantastic experience
I have learned it here: http://www.austrian-mermaids.at/ (Austria)
Apologies for the delayed response, I have now added all the new schools posted above to my list!

I want to go to a class so bad! But unfortunately there seems to be none around Kansas city.. Well Chicago. 😒
This thread should be linked under professional mermaiding as another type of gig possibility.
In September 2017 there will be a new mermaiding class taught on Bainbridge Island, WA, USA by ME. I am really looking for advice from anyone who is a teacher or who has taken a class. I haven't nailed down exactly what I'm teaching yet, so please share with me what you like to do in class and what makes a great class for you.
No website just yet.
This first class is going to be for children. If it goes well, I can start an adults workout mermaid class.
This is taught at the local parks department swimming pool. I am a certified swim instructor and lifeguard with 10 years experience, so it was pretty easy to propose that since I already teach classes, they should let me try a new class. For those who had questions about liability and such, this is an easy way to get started... work for someone else. You won't make as much as if you were a business owner, but you will grow the interest in mermaiding and you will be covered by your employer.
So, Let me know WHAT SHOULD I TEACH THESE GIRLS?

Well here's what I did at Aquamermaid and I gotta say that they did pretty all the same stuff with the kids class that I watched https://youtu.be/3xLNlYG7aQc

Here in austria it works exactly this way too. This are the austrian requirements (german): http://www.schwimmabzeichen.at/de/re.../schwimmlehrer
Schwimmlehrer (swim teacher) requires Retterschein (lifeguard certification) which requires Helferschein (another lifeguard certification).
