So I had to tear out 2 scales. Not as many as I thought.

It wasn't super easy but it worked and they came out intact. I'm going to be gluing the replacement colors down with this last couple sessions of glueing.

Bonus: my friend came home to find me straddling myself

So I was thinking about the flukes that Mertailor is playing around with which is rigid on soft silicone. The rigid making up the actual fluke and the soft being used to coat the piece and I'm wondering if that might be something worth trying. I may fuck it up completely but... it's a tempting idea. Particularly because I don't want to fuss with ankle straps and my dummy has feetsies anyway. I assume the method is just making a rigid base fluke anyway instead of buying a monofin and building up in a similar way. Just a thought

I'm doing something like that right now, but I've wanted to for ages, since FlipTails first started doing monofinless flukes 5 years ago or so. I don't think I've seen Mertailor's, because I don't follow his work, but I've seen people mention that he's attempting it. If you want to see some in action, check out Mike Van Daahl's FlipTails FB page.

Basically, I'm making the fluke the monofin. Give it a go! A few of us are doing this, I've noticed, and we can all learn from each other.

I like your scale shapes, and I imagine the light playing very nicely on the gold leaf look.

Ratchet, kind of like, haphazard. I figured I'd make like Ashton and put all my work in one spot rather than have to search through forums of now dead threads :P

Also I updated so that I could share some stuff I've made that aren't exclusively my tail.

I think it helps to have it all in one spot. Just one loooong un-ending thread lol

So while I've been procrastinating on this tail, I went and got myself a silicone tail as sort of an interim thing. I reviewed it and everything here. http://mernetwork.com/index/showthre...938#post277938

But I wanted a place to put my tail so I also made a tail bag for it!!!

It's all outdoor fabrics and I made the bottom open mesh so it can both drain and release any sand I might get on it! I'm a little frustrated I couldn't find a white zipper but in general I'm really happy with how it turned out.

That looks like a great bag! Careful, you'll get more requests for bags than you can handle!

Aw thanks! I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd thought about it but I always fantasize about going back to costume full time when I'm between gigs. :P
