    Making a custom monofin

    Hi all!

I have decided to make my own monofin with polyethelene. Its the same material as some of the Finis monofins.

Here is the plastic I plan on getting. Its the High Density PE one. http://www.cuttosize.com.au/hdpe-ldpe1

Made a video so you can see in detail, of what I want in my fin. Let me know what you think.

I'd start with 4 mm thick material. See what its like, then get something thicker or thinner to adjust to your taste.
The size and shape look fine to me.
Also: it is very hard to glue to polyethylene. at least roughen it up first. You can also "paint" it with a propane torch to make stuff stick to it better.
Question: What are the new foot pockets? What are you using that will not hurt your feet?

Short bladed swim flippers. They do custom gluing too, so I'll bring them along.

How bout polypropylene then? Is it easier to glue?

Polyproplene is a little easier to glue. Scotch weld DP8005 claims it can glue both types. Ive never tried it, but my guess is it will do polypropylene better than polyethylene. There is also a superglue that can glue plastic, but its not very flexible, and would not recommend it.

I was thinking of using poly zap glue if the store person didn't recommend the glue for swimming.

I decided not to make my own monofin, since I found out that Merrowfins is working on making their own mermaid monofins!
As I still want my monofins to be soft and flexible like rubber, I figured I'll wait to see what Matt can invent! And if he can custom make smaller size monofins, then more yay from me.

And you can delete this thread too.
