"Look at me I'm gonna go touch the butt!"
"he touched the butt."
The SeaGlass Siren
"Butts"is shorthand for 'centralized dorsal adipose hump'.

I believe its okay to be able to express onself however I am preferential to an 18+ restricted forum that is not only A) age restricted of 18+ however B) Only accessible to members on this forum, not to outside members whom have been referred to by a link from a member by this forum.
I respect and acknowledge the importance of not exposing younger viewers to explicit material however I also understand at the same time that the adult mers on this forum may want to share their funnys that may not necessarily be appropriate for the broad spectrum on the forum.
Is an age restricted forum on the pirate map?

As just a quick opinion which I will likely amend as I look more into this, I feel like having ONE thread that is dedicated only to potentially NSFW pictures would be fine, but the line at the NSFW should be things like no pornography (this includes penetration, fellatio, etc.).
For example, a mer exposing their breasts in order to replicate the "classical" mermaid I feel should be perfectly fine. A mer exposing their breasts and fondling them in a sexual manner would not be. In terms of genitalia, I'm gonna say avoid it (After all mertails cover those bits). Butts? I don't see anything wrong with them really (mertails would cover these too usually, but maybe not as a water spirit or other creature?), but once again nothing overtly sexual or pornographic. The idea is more art and expression (while still steering away from being too "adult").
I also agree that these threads need to be member only and should have a way to properly age restrict them.
Although Raina is right: At the end of it all this site is owned by a few people, and if they decide that they want to stop this altogether it's totally their right. If we really want a place for nsfw mer-photos and posts there are certainly other platforms we can do that on.
That matches what most people expressed in this thread and in the poll. A key aspect is that people's attitudes towards exposed skin is the context of the image, which MerNetwork's official policy agrees with:
From the thread Rules and Disclaimers:
The motivation for this is that the context affects the intent. There is artwork and porn that both feature the same level of nudity, but we don't want the latter on this forum. Whether something qualifies as porn is famously subjective, but when something falls in the gray area we will make a judgement call.Don't post obscene content.
This generally refers to any depiction of sex acts or genitalia. MerNetwork does allow toplessness with the expectation that users will exercise appropriate judgement. Such content should feature the warning NSFW (Not Safe For Work) in the thread title. Content of a purely erotic nature is not allowed. If you are uncertain whether something is acceptable please contact one of the admins.
and as previously mentioned, we can be held liable for exposing children (anyone under age) to nudity. This is why sites that DO allow nudity have age restricted parts of the website, or mature content filters.
