    Waterproof Your Hair

Is it possible? Supposedly, Sabino Moisture Block is capable of doing just that! It may not keep your hair completely dry underwater or anything that extreme, but it is supposed to require shampoo to take out and will withstand submersion. Has anyone tried it? If so, what were your results? Phase, let me know! This could definitely change the cosmetics of mermaiding.

Did you try it out? Hm I don't know if we have something like that here in Australia. It sounds more ideal than putting on coconut oil and smelling like an fruit salad!

Ok this is going to sound like a REALLY dumb question (or sarcastic, but I dont mean it that way. Really.)
So I'm genuinely curious, what is the appeal to "waterproofing" your hair? would it be more for preventing damage? preserving any dye jobs? or just as a fun party trick?

not trying to be a jerk. just genuinely curious

@Jaffa: I just got a Sally's reward in my email so I'll be getting some today to try!!

@Katey: It's not a jerk question! For me, it's several reasons. My hair takes forever to dry and I'd rather not go through it when I'm somewhere without a hair dryer, and I feel that mers tend to be more believably magical if their hair doesn't seem bothered by getting soaked.
And then there's the fact that I personally don't think I look as magical with wet hair. Haha

@Katey- the moment I come out of the water, my hair immediately kinda flattens against my head making a kind of bowl cut look. If I could make it "waterproof" or at least not loose its general shape/style, it wouldn't do that- I think the word is volume, but I'm not sure. I had a bunch of pictures from a shoot ruined because my hair (God I sound vain... :/) was all flat against my head.

But yeah, in general, just seconding what Lotus said; would be great if my hair just stayed, and I didn't have to worry about it while swimming/being photographed.

    Waterproof Your Hair

Marlin and Lotus--d'oh!! Those are both really good reasons to want something like this!
Marlin- I know what you mean about the flat hair. Mine does it when I surface as well.

    Not the most flattering look.

Would love to hear what the results are! Dunno if I would use it. But I'm interested in finding out how well it works.

@Katey, my hair goes crunchy after I get out of the pool. My hair's back to its natural color (no more dyed hair for me, it just doesn't last), black and silver, it still feels crunchy. That's why I coat my hair in coconut oil or if I'm in a rush and want to get there, I use normal conditioner and let it dry in my hair.

If there was a waterproofing solution that would protect hair during swims, it would so great. No more mess putting in oil, or smells, or stained clothes because of the oil.

The only totally waterproof hair protection won't move styling product I know of is from back in childhood. For synchronized swimming, swimmers would use Knox gelatin like hair gel.
This could totally work for a short short hairstyle/pixie cut. For long hair it can end up looking like ice skater hair, not the typical mermaid flowing locks.

If this stuff works, I think there will be a crisis as the Mers will buy all of it. Shelves will be emptied over night! Something that even helps a little bit with keeping hair looking remotely okay after water would be amazing!

I've looked it up. It doesn't actually water proof it, it just keeps it from loosing shape and style in humidity. Putting your hair in water will just wash it all out

Shame. An alternative sounded nice. Has anyone tried the hair waxes?

I've heard you can also submerge your hair in water and it's fine, as long as you don't shampoo it! I'm still gonna try it for you guys and let you know how it goes!! ^.^

In the meantime, PLEASE feel free to add any other suggestions!! We'll find that perfect product if we all put our heads together! <3

I personally wouldn't try the suede protection, but if you really want to, make sure it's clear/no color, or you could spray dye your hair.
Why blend in when you were so obviously destined to stand out?

Both this and the quote you used in your post made me crack up.

On another note, when I was active duty one of my captains talked about how before he was an officer, he was a drill instructor and would waterproof his uniform (he used some spray; not exactly sure what it was, but it just made it so water would slough off the layer for a little bit). He did this because apparently there was nothing more terrifying to recruits than a drill instructor coming into the showers and being untouched by the water while screaming orders at them. Hilarious.
