    body forms?

I just received my neoprene to make my hybrid tail. I have a sewing background and am confident in making the neoprene base but I'm not sure what to use as a "tail form" for proper application of my silicone scaling. I have me measurements and am thinking of body pillows and duct tape to cinch it in to proper dimensions. Has anyone tried this, or have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice.

    You can:
Put your legs in a trash bag and duct tape on top of that, if you want to reinforce it, you can either stuff it with pillow stuffing, foam, newspaper, whatever you find around the house, or you can put plaster bandages on the inside, you can find plaster bandages anywhere on ebay or Amazon for cheap money

Oooo I hadn't thought about the ease of doing it with trash bags. Ty

And packing tape works better than duct tape because it won't stretch over time.

Lol I also hadn't considered the stretch of duct tape. You ladies are quite helpful. Ty

I used packing tape but once i start naking other tails for myself i plan on making a fabric body double like this one I made for my corsets (pattern isn't mine for the form, it was offered free in a corset making group on facebook)

It's still pretty tight. It took some wiggling to take it off.

Size: 739.9 KB ok so I just made the trashbag/packing tape of my lower half to stuff. At first I put my knees and ankles together but then I thought I wouldn't be able to get my tail on if I made it that tight, so I parted them slightly. Is this a correct assumption?

You could just cut it down the back, that way you can get out of it easier and then just tape it up

But if I'm going to use it as my form to do my silicone then won't it be a good representation of my end result in size? I don't want to have to cut myself out of this and then make my tail too tight to get my feet into my monofin.

Just about anything you make a mermaid tail out of is going to stretch more than layered packing tape

Well yeah I guess that's true lol. But do I want to make it with my knees and ankles actually touching? Or would that make the finished product too tight? I want it as tight as I can and still get into it lol

I would suggest putting on your monofin and seeing how far apart it sets your feet (and by extension, your knees)

That's a good point. It isn't here yet I was trying to get a jump start while waiting for it to arrive. But, like I'm sure each step will do, it just gave me more questions lol. I appreciate the advice

My cousin made made one this way as an outside layer and then used a spray foam inside to fill it so that she didn't have to worry about it getting beat up too easily.

Foam sounds much easier than pillow filling, ty

Size: 642.3 KB I just finished reinforcing the tape around the trash bag. It holds its shape nicely now. I know I should wait for my fin to get here to make sure I have my legs placed correctly...but I'm moving forward anyway and hoping for the best. I think I'm good. I'm really excited to move forward and don't want to wait 2 weeks to start lol
