    Hi from Berlin/Germany

As I was searching for a merfolk community I stumbled across your wonderful network and finally decided to join, introduce myself and get to know eeeeverything about mermaiding

I am US/German (and think my English became quite rusty, so please excuse my mistakes), learned 'normal' swimming before I went to school, have lived by the coast all my life until I was 21 and spent every second at the beach.
I always used to do several types of sports incliuding fencing, swimming and dancing until I got diagnosed with something (it's kind of private, so maybe I'll get back to that later) and had to spent some time in hospital as well (and did recover in case you were wondering).
My boyfriend owns a boat, and we do get to visit the 'beach' (it's a beach by the river Spree) a lot in summer. When I tried teaching him dolphin kick swimming last year, I unfortunately failed even though I am a better swimmer than he is. I woulnd't say I was any kind of pro anyway.

As I recently cut down working as an EMT fultime to only doing so if they really need someone to help out, and feel I am kind of losing my shape and fitness level, and also my physical therapist told me to restart some sport again to get rid of the pain in my back that occurred recently, I decided to engage in something new.

    Why mermaiding?
When I was 5 years old, The Little Mermaid (1989) came out and I was fascinated ever since. I even had a knockoff Non-Barbie doll mermaid with bright red hair and a shiny shimmery tail- she was the only Barbie doll I liked, other from her I didn't like those or any other dolls at all and preferred playing with cars, planes, etc. and doing other things considered being 'boyish'.
Another aspect is I like the look and the femininity of mermaids and the grace of them (and merman), I love their floating hair (I love 'big' floaty things as I do for example love my swing dresses) and do wear a lot of wiggle dresses to enhance my hourglass form. Plus I am a pinup type girl, so I only wear dresses , skirts and do own only one pair of pants, so experimenting with looks, textures and colors is my thing.

Currently I am waiting for Mermaid Kat Shop tail to arrive. I am sooo excited!
The shop staff adviced me on ordering their teen size 3 as I am only 5'28'', and their big monofin (it's HUGE! in my opinion) although it says it's shoe size 8.5- 10.5 and I am a size 6.5- 7.5.
I hope they really are as adjustable as the staff promised they'd be.
I also think about attending a mermaiding starter class. There's one about 10 minutes from my house, but I am a little worried, I'll be the only 'crazy', 'silly' adult there being surrounded by little 6-10 year olds... On the other hand I think it's probably better to join one especially for safety aspects, so I think I probably will though.

Hi! A warm welcome to our community from Italy!

Your story is really interesting it kinda reminds me of a fairytale where after some obstacles everyone reaches their happy ending
I also had and have the "little mermaid" crush I still dream about marrying my prince Eric if I manage to find one
I'm totally mad about Pinups! They are so feminine and beautiful.

I have a friend who has lots of Mermaid Kat's tails and she love them so it will be perfect for you too I assume

If you don't find comfortable to attend a mermaid class, try with a free diving one but attend it with a monofin it's almost the same in big lines

Let us know about your mermaid journey

    Hallo!

Engish version: I am from Austria and I am having a costume of Mermaid Kat with the monofin Hydra too. The monofin is very adjustable (allows multiple positions). You don't need to mind about the size if you orderd the correct size.

Ich würde es dir empfehlen, da du es wahrscheinlich dort am besten lernen kannst. Ich hab's auch in einer Schule gelernt und es war's meiner Meinung nach Wert.

English version: I would recommend that to you as you will probably learn it the best way there. I have also learned it at a school and imho it was worth it.
