A few of years ago I saw an exhibit of Jean Paul Gaultier's work at the Brooklyn Museum and was so taken by his mermaids!
I didn't see any previous posts on them so I figured I'd share. While the pictures don't do the gowns justice (they're breathtaking in person!) I love the concept.
The crown jewel of this collection is this corset gown made of metal with hinges, shell & mother of pearl.
Then this one is featured with crutches, which I love as it alludes to the original Little Mermaid where it hurt for her to walk. (Gaultier also designed Madonna's famous bullet bra, so him using these shells for a bra makes total sense!)
