    My first silicone mermaid tail

Hi y'all! So I have begun to make my mermaid tail. I have the sketch, the cardboard outline of my fluke and my monofin. All I need to do is my ducktape dummy, silicone, plaster, clay and foam scale sheet. So pumped up!

Does anyone know if when I mix my silicone together if it would be okay to use acrylic paint? Please let me know, and if there is anything else I need to be aware of please reply here. Thank you!

Acrylic paint in a large amount will cause the silicone to not cure. It is not recommend for use.

If you are worried about the cost of other pigments like SilcPig (which was my problem), I have found a lot of others use Pearl Ex.

I used them myself. I know a good website for the US to get them is dickblick.com

They are about $5 for the bigger jars and last a good while.

Ok, thank you! I've been worried about cost because I have such a tight budget. Thanks again!

In the Pearl Ex, is it supposed to be powder. And how big are the big jars?

    The jars are 10oz, 50oz, and 75oz.

The 10oz is around $2. The 50oz and 75oz vary in colors but are both around $5. I think.

I used the 50oz blue and I still have a small bit left over. Most of my tail is blue, but I did add a little black pigment.

    You are very welcome.

If you need any help just ask/message me. I did my tail individually scaled, but I should be able to help with all the basic questions and I did research on scale sheets too.

Hey guys! So I just ordered my clay for my fluke! I'm so exited. I'm still working on my scale sheet but once I get that don't my next step is getting the plaster!
