    Question Random food question

So does anyone else find that every now and again they get MASSIVE cravings for seafood? (I'm not pregnant btw) Like for me its those little pots of tuna with corn, or chilli or other flavourings. I can eat like six of those in a sitting, though my breath is a bit shocking afterwards hahah

    Mmmm...crabcakes!

Um, no!!! I do not eat ANY seafood, for environmental/ethical reasons. For this mermaid, FISH ARE FRIENDS, NOT FOOD!

I actually dont eat any seafood either, not for ethical reason- though if I enjoyed it I might opt out for ethical reasons lol. I just do not like it, i cant even stand the smell of it hahaha and I live in a mega seafood town!

Must be tough, Raina! I know fishing is a BIG part of NS's economy, right? I live in a coastal region as well, but commercial fishing really isn't the be-all, end-all of our local economy the way it is in some other places. I hate the smell of seafood as well! For those of you who enjoy seafood, I have a question for you: how can you get past the smell?

Some are friends, some are food, just like with land animals. Let's not be judgemental, especially towards new merfolk who may not be aware of some mers' passionate opinions.

I'm not being judgmental, I'm just honestly curious. Do you seafood lovers genuinely like the smell, or are you able to overlook it because you enjoy the taste so much? I do not think eating seafood makes someone a "bad" person, and I try very hard to do my best to respect others' differences, so it can be kinda hurtful to me when people don't realize that I'm not meaning to be disrespectful or judgmental.

I know you well enough to see you'd never be intentionally hurtful. I was afraid Undertow would attract criticism for her love of seafood. I jumped in first to show she's not alone in loving it. When someone announces that they do or refrain from doing something for ethical reasons, it implies those who disagree are unethical. We should be careful about that. All seafood doesn't come from evil corporations. But please don't feel bad, you are a good person with strong feelings.

As for the smell, most seafood that is fresh and well prepared has little smell.

If I start an "in character" blog, I think I'm gonna say that there are both herbivorous/vegetarian merfolk and omnivorous/fish-eating merfolk, as I realize it is a tough issue, since there are both mers like me who feel strongly about not eating seafood as part of their mer-lifestyle, and mers who feel the opposite, and feel drawn to seafood and find eating it makes them feel more "mermaidy".

I'm veggie, but I've never liked seafood. The smell and taste grossed me out too much.
Plus, I saw "Finding Nemo" pretty young and ever since then, fish are friends, not food.
    I'm a superbeast.

I can't stand the smell of most seafood, but I am always up for shrimptoast. I love shrimptoast from our local chinese takeout. It is deliciousness. Too bad it's really unhealthy (lots of oil) and therefore only a rare treat.

LOL Undertow, I get those massive cravings for Shrimp Scampi and Snow (or King) Crab legs.. I probably eat it once every what 4 months or so. I dont eat fish at all, And im allergic to Squid ..I dunno why but thats what my Epi-Pen is for, just in case.. Calamari is my worst enemy, well besides drift nets

Seafood doesn't really smell, particularly when cooked or prepared. And really, vegetables and meat, not to mention dairy and fruit all smell when they're left out in the air and exposed to decomposing agents.

Salmon especially has a very mild flavor and is very healthy for you, and octopus and sepia and calamari tastes fairly bland, if chewy, without breading or flavoring to make it taste better. Flounder also tastes good. I'm somewhat less likely to eat crustaceans, though, particularly not shrimp (crabs can be good every so often, though) just because I'm not crazy about their taste. Undertow, it's less of a craving for me, so much as feeling refreshed after eating fish the way I don't when eating other food.

Fish are friends not food....hahah I havent heard that in awhile
Thats actually an intresting notion, vegetarian mermaids who only eat kelp and stuff. I like it.
Personally Im on a seafood diet....I see food and I eat it!!!
But everyone is entitled to do (or in this case eat) what they want and I dont think we should judge people who swing either way

Honestly, I adore the smell of fresh fish. But my family was built off of fishing. (Fun fact! My great-grandfather invented the fish-stick! And THOSE are just as gross as you would imagine.)

I get massive cravings for crab! Also sushi. Sooo much sushi cravings! I learned to roll my own so now I can make some whenever

Also for those non fish eating mers- roasted seasoned seaweed is AMAZING. BETTER THAN POTATO CHIPS. YOU WILL BE ADDICTED. People laugh at that statement then they try them and they are hooked! You can get them at Trader Joes and at Japanese markets.
