    Cutting Down Drag

Hey y'all! So I made my first fabric tail maybe a year ago but I hadn't really had a pool to play around with it. Well I moved a month ago and there is a community pool super close. I started swimming with just my fin a few days and today, I also put on my fabric tail over it. And holey damn is there some serious drag on that thang! I don't remember it begin that bad before but to be fair, I had nothing to compare it to. So my question is, what can I do to cut down the drag?

I have a long dorsal fin from my hip down to the middle of my calf. I have two (shitty) extra fins from the middle of my thigh to about the middle of the fin foot pocket on the right and left sides (at the seam) and the ankle section and leg portion of the tail are pretty loose. I had issues getting the fin in and our so I needed a wide ankle section. I have cut the fin to a slightly different shape that should make it easier to get in and out so I plan on thinning the ankles and taking it in at the knee (I can widen my knees to about six inches between them) but I'm not sure if those are even the issues creating the drag. Next weekend is the last time the pool is open and I would really like to get my tail fixed up before the place closes for ten months. HELP!

well, I have some bad news for you:
fabric tails always have terrible drag, there is little you can do about it

    what helps is the following:
the less fabric you use overall, the better.
That means making it as snug as possible (keep in mind that in water, it loosens up a bit, so make it really tight),
keeping the fluke small, or if you have a large monofin, covering it only partially helps a ton.

I don't have any extra fins, so not 100% sure how much drag they add, but my guess is any additional stuff you have on the tail will add to the drag.

Looking at the commercial fabric tails, I mostly see they are meant to insert the fin from the fin end, not through the whole tail.
That's why i made my own tail like that, with covered velcro stripes on the back side.

My fin inserts from the left curve of the fin, so not all the way through. But because of the fluke shape, I didn't want to have it insert through the bottom
