Hey everyone! After losing sleep from the excitement, I'm proud to announce that I have officially drawn out and budgeted a new tail design for myself! It's been a very long time since I made a tail and I'm SUPER excited to be trying out all sorts of new techniques and materials for this project such as extending my finis rapid, using zip ties in the additional fins, using neoprene/ scuba knit fabric, airbrushing the paint onto the tail, heat setting the fabric paint, and attaching a zipper to the tail.
I saw a freshwater finfolk tail not too long ago
(
<<This one to be precise)
and I felt a serious connection to its shape and composition! So, my design will feature the same types of side fins and ankle fins but I'll be making them out of scuba fabric/ neoprene (not sure which one to use then) and iridescent organza.
Here are some of my sketches:
With the help of my super sweet and patient boyfriend, I've decided to go with white, mint, and purple hues. I've only had darker/ richer colored tails thus far and I think that having a fresh, bright tail would be very refreshing! I was debating between sewing scale "strips" (like ribbons of cut out fabric scales) and painting and I think it will probably just be better to paint them on. Also, I will be following the design on the far left of the 2nd page for the fluke and additional fins.
Since I don't see this very often in threads, I'm also going to post my current budget for this tail:
Due to me being a full time engineering student, I may have some delays between posts. With that being said, I will post progress updates whenever I find the time to work on it!
