I don't know, but I'd be interested in knowing.

You know this thread is over a year old and about FREE DIVING lessons in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, right?
Not SCUBA, and not New York, and not even this year...
Sorry if that's harsh sounding, but you're like, bringing up old, dead freediving threads EVERYWHERE and posting about scuba in them... They're not the same thing. It's kind of tiring seeing all the old threads that are either long past their "prime" or have already been "resolved" in terms of the OP brought back up just for an unrelated comment.

I free dive for fun, I could teach you. I live in the LA area.
I am a certified life guard and swim instructor.
Yeah its an open invite! I've free dove mostly at Catalina Island. But I live near Redondo beach and near a lot of the Palos Verdes coves. I don't dive much in San Pedro because the water around there is a bit nasty.
Since it is December I don't dive much because it's cold. I swim and practice diving in pools during the 'off season' (winter)-I would recommend starting off there if you are new to free diving. Just so you get the hang of equalizing, being under (somewhat deep) water, and whatnot.
So far I've been able to go down to 35/40 ft.
I don't ever dive alone, and no one should! Buddy system!!!
I am always looking for new friends to swim with, so anyone is invited!
Would sometime during the weekend of the 14th or 21st work for you? I can contact some of the other people in the community to see who else would like to come.
By the way, how deep is the pool you train it?

I cant do anything till after Christmas sorry.
The pool I train in is 15 feet but its more about being able to hold your breath and self equalize well while under water.
I would totally be interested in doing this! I can't until after the second weekend in January, though. @.@ I'm pretty busy.
I cant do anything till after Christmas sorry. It's cool, I realized earlier today that it was way too optimistic of me to propose a time in December. Realistically the earliest I can go diving would be after January 25th. How about we make an event on facebook to work out the logistics and figure out who'd be interested in this? I hope I'm not coming off as pushy, I'm just really excited about learning to freedive, and about planning local meetups.I would totally be interested in doing this! Sure, facebook sounds like a good idea. Then we could figure out details and whatnot. It would be cool if it became a weekly/monthly thing we could all go swimming together! Lets make new mer friends!
I. Am. In.
I agree that planning regular diving trips as a group would be awesome.
Here's an event page that I made: https://www.facebook.com/events/557700160980669/
I can make you a host if you like. Are you in the California Merfolk Pod Facebook group?
I joined! whoohoo!
I'd like to do this. Just joined the invite on Facebook.
