So the last caudal fin mold I made was great! unfortunately i left it on a piece of oddly- shaped wood that stuck out and when someone steps on it, it could crack the mold. Someone also but a box on top of it. It was light so i wasnt worried that much but is should've been because there is a mess of hairline cracks in it.
Its a lot of work to waste so i decided to fix it! Heres what i did: wear a mask and gloves, please!
So this is the biggest one and its a little raised (Maybe a rock or something is under the wood im keeping it on)
Mix some ultracal or whatever plaster you used and slap it on there.
smooth it out with your gloved hand. notice how it looks all gross and not smooth? thats the next step
get a bunch of cotton swabs. dip one in water and run it across until all the areas are smooth again. there should only be small amounts in the cracks. the goal is to make it all smooth again.
this is what it looks like after. The next two steps i did not take photos of. you will use a paint brush ( the kind for painting houses) and sweep away the excess. you need to wait for it to dry (i give it a day to be safe) and then i like to use a clear coat of acrylic spray on top.
As long as i can close my eyes and go over the cracks and not feel them, i think this trick will work just fine. im making another tail soon after i finish my scale mold then we shall see how effective this was.
