They are pretty... Until they dodge your dragon's eliminate in the Coliseum. I have all of them personally.
I don't think the artist(s) are into tail making, but I could be wrong. All I know is that they were worked on by a couple different people.
Oh, that's Jessica Peffer's art! You're right, she's not into the mermaiding hobby at all, but she is a relatively well-known fantasy artist. She has a lot of art books out there, and some nifty art of mermaids as well. She's somebody I personally really look up to in the art field.

If someone asked me which one I identify most with, my answer would be:
Yeah, I really love the FR merfolk designs!
And Jessica Peffer is a good artist, her how to draw books are very good as well. (and there aren't many good how to draw books) I think I have all of them.
oh goodness, came to look at the pretty art but I'll be honest (and embarrassed) to say the 'save me from the monster' actually scared me just a tiny bit because I didn't register the big scary thing until I zoned in on those eyes and I'm like 'ok! was NOT ready'. lol I somehow lulled myself into a false sense of security XD
anyway, these are some beauties though, I always enjoy seeing art for different types of mers, I'll need to look more deeply at this artists stuff
