    Top alterations?

Hey guys, so the Ren Fest is in full swing here and my bestie always goes as a pirate, so I figured I would be her mermaid! I put about a week of work into my costume, have received nothing but compliments, but alas - I was turned away at the gate because "swimsuits are banned" and ended up spending my day in just my skirt and a plain t-shirt. Not fun. So does anyone have any ideas as to how I would alter this to look... less like a swim top? I don't think it looks like one in the first place, so I'm a little lost.

You might just go super simple and put a black tank under it? I love the pirate top idea too.

That sucks! It's not like it's just a bikini top, it's clearly decorated and themed...is it a modesty issue or are they trying to uphold strict theming? :/

I'm really not sure? They do have modestly policies, but I saw plenty of ladies with midsections and cleavage on display in other styles of blouses. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong exactly so I could fix it ): I try to explain that it definitely isn't just a bikini top but they wouldn't have any of it.

I do love the pirate top idea! Would that look silly if I wore the top over it and not underneath it? I still really want to show it off..

A blinged up tankini top would be more modest than a swim bra. Maybe they think it would get wet and go sheer?

The thing is, bustiers and crop tops, etc aren't banned... So I'm not sure what the issue is. I told them it wasn't made of swim material and they just...
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
