Warning for Merfolk booking a lane at Scarborough Beach Pool, Perth.

To mer-swim at Scarborough pool at the moment using a monofin with or without a skin you need to be over 12 and book a lane in advance, and fill in a liability form and sign off on it. At the moment, even though the paperwork they give you to sign off for liability says 12-18 year olds require an adult spotter the duty manager will insist on you having a spotter even if you're over 18. Despite what your paperwork says. This is a bit vexing if you haven't come with a spotter, having no idea that you need one, because why would you if your paperwork says otherwise.

The duty manager was apologetic but adamant that his paperwork override mine. I hope they get some sort of consistency going here.

Also they don't allow photography at all.

Also vexing, but it's very close and convenient for me - and a heated pool in winter is very nice.

That’s horrible. I go to a private homeowner pool (I live in an estates) doesn’t have a lifeguard despite the 4 pools and 3 hot tubs and most of the Time swimming is fine but sometimes renters or even homeowner will touch your tail or swim to close to you and it’s very unsafe.

It's just a bit vexing to be told one thing and then have to do another. It's so convenient that it's close, deep and heated that I'll put up with it.

I can relate as a cashier telling people corporate doesn't know the meaning of false advertising

It's very cold winter here (for the region, well actually it's transitioning between Makuru and Djilba - second winter into first spring but we won't get into that) so not many people are at the pool, despite its heated charms. The most contact we've had with other swimmers is polite compliments on how good our tails look underwater. No one has tried to touch us, not even little kids. I think that's part of why they require us to rent a lane - it's gets sign posted as being in use. The management tells me that they'll have to reassess my weekly bookings come the end of September when they expect more people as the weather gets warmer. It would be nice to take photos too. In this Instagram age I don't know what they're thinking. If weirdos want to take photos all they have to do is go up to the carpark and take a photo looking down on the pool, they don't even have to pay to get in, it's not stopping anyone doing anything dodgy!

When you have to explain why a sausage is 6.99 when a one topping pizza is 6.00? I've done it many times and got mixed reactions. I had to relay my condolences and sympathy in spanish once. It was hard to tell if she was upset because of the language barrier.

But back on topic, yeah, being told one thing and having those in charge say "NAH!" sucks worse than Charybdis.
