    Mahina Monofin Alterations

I have a mahina and absolutely love it. I do not want to get rid of it but I have a problem with it. I have a high instep and low ankle bones so I get a lot of rubbing. I have tried socks but then I can’t feel my toes. I have heard that you can alter them a little and I was wondering the best way to do that.

I can't really help. I'm here on the sock part. What kind have you used? I used 1mm Seavenger neoprene socks and they help great. I've seen someone on here (recently) show a pic of where she cut out parts of the straps to accommodate her ankles. Unlike you tho, altho I love my Mahina, I gave up and sold it.

I’ve used every sock I can find from fuzzy one to neoprene to thin athletic socks.

I had the same problem too. I even got another merfin in the next size up and wore it with 3mm neoprene socks. It was fine after that, no rubbing, or blisters.

this is a really good tip. Maybe that's what I'll do.
The fin is so lovely and speedy, but I'm really done with fins that can double as medieval torture devices.

I tried shoe stretchers. They seem to help. May be something for you to try.

If that's the case, then you have no other options but to buy another brand of monofin that has larger feet sizes. I've got an Ebay one that goes up to size 13 womens shoe. Its slightly smaller than an adult merfin but still a big enough blade to give tons of speed and propulsion. You can search it on google, its the one with wavy fin lines and wavy edge. Comes in blue and yellow.

    Alibaba has it.

Or try the shoe stretchers, like Storm said.
If you have some bigger than your foot and have them stretch the fin all the time when you're not using it, it might indeed become wider and more comfortable to wear even without socks.

That merfin rubber does not have the same kind of stretch like the finis foil.
