Thread: Old mermaid?

    Old mermaid?

I dont know if anyone is round the same age as me and feels the same as I do, I've wanted to do this for a year now and now I'm actually living my dream of being a mermaid. Sometimes I feel maybe I'm too old for this. I turned 41 in January and I've been super excited about getting monofins, getting all the materials together to make my own tail which so far has taken me 6 weeks to get all the bits and I still need to get the main bulk of it, the spacer fabric. My husband has been super supportive of my, my sister has been really interested but some of my friends and my mum are like aren't you too old and isn't this for kids blah blah. I just feel they're putting a bit of a damper on things.

Ehh, not old. Just improving with age -- like fine wine.

Don't let anyone talk you out of it if this is what you want to do.

Lol I like that improving with age. I've been practicing in the local pool and got the twister down to a T now. Obviously it will be different with a monofin on but I'm having the time of my life. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia just over 4 years ago and thought my life had ended. Cant do much housework or walk my dogs, always in pain but in the water I feel free

Ohferkrakensakes... I'm 63... and just started this!

I've played in the water all my life (including some cold water scuba diving and kayaking), and always have done a dolphin kick, with fins, underwater (I hate swimming on the surface).

I just got my first fins. Plural. On a limited budget. Because. Of reasons.

Roped a photog buddy into getting some pics today (a dryland shoot because PA is too cold for underwater shoots right now). Oooooooo I might photoshop some of those a wee bit, but the point is Gramma Swordwhale is as legit as any of you young whippersnappers.

This is a great way to exercise imagination, inspire others, and stay fitter (no matter your present body shape). Mermaids don't hike well (with bad knees) but spending time in the water is great. The "mermaid kick" is a good total workout.

We really don't have to wear starfish crowns or shell bras. We can make our own statement.

Aaaaaaaaaannnndd the "it's just for kids" thing will make me pull out my pool noodle and smite someone....

Too many "muggles" have submerged their imagination, their sense of adventure, and those are the things that make life... life.

Imagination is what finds the next cure, got us to the moon and beyond, found the Titanic, saves species, and changes the world. Exercising your imagination through "play" expands your brain and your world.

Even old mermaid can get famous. There a mermaid by the name Cookie who host a small convention in NC around her birthday every year. She practically seems to handle the New York pod also. Anything can be accomplished. I’m also part of of older mer club as this merman is 38.

Hi I also turned 41 this year but feel trying new things makes you stay young. I got a kick scooter for my 40th birthday but this year I’m loving chance to swim more.

My father in law heard I had been to a mermaid class and said I will have no need for a bucket list! So glad he totally got it.

Yeah, no. My pod's merqueen/manager is in her sixties. Her mersona is still gorgeous, she went pretty far in that Siren contest, and nobody bats an eye.
