    play with your toys...

Before I got a tail (recently) I did this...

    https://www.swordwhale.com/stupid-gr...n-neck-is.html

It began with seeing other model horse collectors taking their models out into nature and photographing them. Tried it, ,loved it.

Then, on a trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore MD, a mermaid demanded I take her home. I was cruising the gift shop and really didn't need an 18" mermaid doll...

    Yeah...yeah yeah I did..

She acquired some friends (often found in the bottom of the thrift shop plushie bin). Any time I go to a beach, or out in the kayak, the mermaids come along. Photographing them makes you see a familiar place from a new perspective (literally... much closer to the ground). It's a fun activity for kids at a beach, or on a hike.

So don't let your toy...eh...collectibles sit on a shelf... let them have some adventures...

Okay, now I can show my husband that I'm not the only adult who takes toys out to have adventures.

I tend to restrict myself to small portable toys (the bigger ones have to stay home). I have two little sock monkeys who live in my handbag and a small flamingo plushie who lives in one pocket of the cart I drag to medical appointments.

My cousin (also a mermaid)(and an entomologist) is dealing with 2 aging parents, Dad in nursing home and Mom at home with health issues. Cousin lives 3 states away and is juggling a lot, flying back and forth etc...

A couple weeks ago, she found an odd little toy, forgotten in a corner of a closet somewhere; it's made of bunny fur and probably vintage from the 50s or 60s. It sort of looks like a little lion man. "Mortimer" ended up going along on doctor appts, and sparked all kinds of conversation and laughter, both out and about and at home. Cousin kind of told me about it apologetically and I was like NO THIS IS AWESOME! And took pics. He is apparently a Laughter Therapy Specialist.

I think it's important to keep the Inner Child alive and thriving. And to tell your story with humor. And sometimes help from mermaids or sock monkeys...
