So I've been working on a pattern & design to get some fabric custom printed to make some tails, thought you guys might like to see. I'm still not completely happy with the dorsal fins.

Thanks guys/girls, had to take a break from this while I got all my assignments done for the end of last term, but got back to it over the holidays, I've updated the dorsal fin to one I'm much happier with and changed the fin to fit the mahina, it was the fantasea 3 but with shipping & exchange rates atm that would cost me around $750 NZD, since that's more than twice what I get each week, that will wait for a while. The mahina is *only* $250ish NZD.

I was thinking of getting it printed on scuba knit, and then layering the printed scuba over neoprene. I also had an idea to pad out around the knees and ankles with shaped layers of neoprene to give a smooth look over the whole tail, has anyone tried this or have any thoughts about how it might work? I figure I may need to add some small weights to counteract the buoyancy of the neoprene.
Also wanting to add some stiffening to the fins, I'm thinking something about as flexible as zip ties, but shaped so it will stay in the s-curve shape naturally, but bend without damage when it gets pulled/pushed/sat on etc. I figured I'd start by seeing if I can heat set zip ties to hold a curve and sew them into channels between the two layers of the fins, the same way I'd add boning to a corset. I might also try the lightest weight synthetic whalebone corset boning as well, if anyone can think of something else that might work I'm all ears.

Aquarium piping/tubes. Sew it in the same was as you would with boning.
