It is time to let my Thom Shouse tail find a new home. The tail was made by the Tailman himself, using some of the same molds from the famous Splash tail. It is a screen-ready tail prosthetic that maneuvers very well in the water and looks amazing on land. This is the tail that graced the cover of the 2010 Freaks of Asheville calendar and in which I officiated the Harlem Mermaid's wedding at the 2015 Merfest in NC.

Thom custom made this tail for me in 2005 and it has held up very well. Made of polyurethane rubber, it is thick enough to hide the shapes of one's legs through it unlike thinner material. I've taken good care of it - always rinsed with fresh water, thoroughly dried, stored covered and flat with pillows inside to help retain shape, transported flat on a board and not stood up in. The rubber remains very flexible. There is no funk, mildew, or other unpleasantness and it has not been worn in a couple of years.

It was made for a 32-34 inch waist, 32 inch inseam, and has a Finis Rapid monofin built into the fluke (US men's foot size 8-11). From waist to the tips of the fluke measures around 77 inches. It was last painted in 2010 when sent to Thom to have him add a dorsal zipper that makes it easier to get in and out of. It weighs just under 40 pounds, but as with most rubber tails, feels almost weightless in the water. A great feature that Thom included is hidden drain tubes running through the fluke to keep water from being retained.

The paint job is inspired by the Blue Tang (i.e., Dory from Finding Nemo), and has only minor blistering and scuffing. The paint has embedded glitter to give it a shimmery sparkle in the light. There are no tears or rips in the body or fluke, and only one small tear in a thin dorsal fin piece that Thom added to hide the zipper (see pictures). That tear can easily be repaired with a little bit of polyurethane or epoxy (or just cut away).

Thom tails cost $5000-$10,000. I am asking $1500.00 plus actual shipping costs. If you are in the Seattle area, in person pick up can be arranged.

This is a great opportunity to get a professional-grade tail with a lot of life left in it, made by one of the best (and arguably most famous) tailmakers out there. I'll be listing it on E-Bay in a few days, but wanted to give the Mer community first crack. If interested, you can text me at (three-six-zero) eight-two-zero-eight-two-three-four.

And finally, No, I will not donate it and don't need help selling it - please don't even ask. I would however consider a trade with a reputable/established tail maker for a new silicone tail.
