Thread: Model Mayhem?

  1. #21
I'm uploading my photos from the shoot I had on Monday, I'll link when my profile gets live. Just a fair warning, the majority of these are NSFW/NSFM

I’m having my first mermaid shoot in a couple of day’s time and when I get the prints from it I’ll use them for my pictures. I hope I can use photos from the same shoot. I've heard too you have to apply to get onto model mayhem and was wonder what things they would turn down your application for? I've heard some people getting rejected for no reason.

  3. #23
I had no trouble getting accepted. I used two NSFW photos and two that were questionably NSFW.

BTW, since I promised...http://www.modelmayhem.com/2269651 If you make sure that you're in worksafe mode you shouldn't see the NSFW pictures.

    My MM account. http://www.modelmayhem.com/336461

I do allow escorts, and haven't had a problem yet. Escorts will be used as gear haulers, reflector holders, ect. Generally, I do not do nudity, although I do have need for an implied (hand bra) shot right now. Mermaid tail shots are about the only time I allow bikinis, as they normally don't work well under wetsuits.

Many times we see profiles on MM that are conflicting. The model says "no nudity", but then fills her port with nude shots. So that might be some of the reason you're getting some of the requests. We don't know, and that's why we ask. Some are scams, and some are perverts. The No Outting policy on MM sometimes helps the creeps, but it also helps protect the innocent as well. If the photographer keeps insisting on nudes after you say NO, WALK OUT ON HIS ASS! If he's on MM, use the Contact A Moderator, and report him. A few bad reports will get him booted.

I know this question has been asked and discussed before but for those who have a Model Mayhem account, what have been your experiences?

  6. #26
Haha ooohhhhh, ModelMayhem. I've had many good experiences. It's way better than other freelance modeling sites I've tried. I will say this....when you're dealing with any large group of people, you will run into big egoes, whinging balls of neuroses, and predatory perverts.

I just got an MM site last month, and I already have my first paying gig coming up next month, and I had a photoshoot and have a few more in September. I like it. It's fun.

Make sure you stand firm on what you won't do in regards to any type of modeling and do not hide your boundaries and/or standards. You'll get a lot crap for it, but it's best to uphold what you think is right and don't do anything you know you're not comfortable doing or even thinking of.

I started up an MM account at the beginning of March and was bombarded with the same kind of "Shoot nudes and erotica!! I won't pay you, but come be topless for a while" crud that you always see. I made sure to put very specifically in my profile that I only am interested in couture, runway, or high fashion work and those messages stopped pretty automatically. So far the one shoot I've done in my tail was with a friend and it was TFP (time for prints) because we both wanted the experience of modelling/photographing. I bet it would be an interesting way to try and network your availability as a mermaid model more than any other kind of model, just not sure how one would go about doing that...

In my experience... horrible horrible website. All of the photographers I have met through that site were unprofessional and did pretty terrible work, or wanted TFP (trade for print), which, in professional modeling is not usually acceptable. The minute you tell them you have rates they scoff at you. I don't recommend the site at all... seems to be full of 'creeps with cameras'. The one good photographer I set up a paid shoot with wanted sex after the shoot. Deleted my profile.

Also, absolutely this. They'll try to coax you into stuff you don't want to do... get a contract, set your boundaries, and stand firm!!!

I was finally accepted now that I have some better quality pics! http://www.modelmayhem.com/3473333

There are creepers and scammers on every site, unfortunately, and I've just learned to ignore them.
I'm not sure if there's a "block" feature on MM, but anyone who is too pushy is probably no good and should be avoided.

sounds horrible, but not everyone on MM is like that. You have had really bad luck.

My profile is straightforward and explicit (no erotica/nudity), and with a very few exceptions I've only received legit offers from pro photographers and model agencies.

Of course there is always the stray "I have something super special and I need you for this shoot", which turns out to be some smartass wanting to do a nude calendar even though "no nudity" is stated in my profile he didn't bother to read.

My main complaint would be that the site is supposed to be international, yet most casting calls I get require me to jet over to LA or somesuch (erm...), but that's less the fault of the site and more due to the mediocre English skills of many Europeans, who rather use their country-based modelling sites.

You should have reported them to the mods! The mods enjoy going after the pervy GWC's (guys with camera).

I haven't been there much in the last 2 years due to all the flakes. I have a narrow shooting window during the summer due to my stage job, and flakeing models are the reason I haven't done a shoot in a long time. There are reasons I have to do wetsuit fitting sessions before a shoot. This summer is a good reason! Water temps just broke 60 degrees last week, and you are not going in that unless you want become an icicle! Once you get cold, the shoot is over, as you become a danger to you and me in the water. And cold water is not fun! So far, every model that has shot, wanted to do scuba lessons after the shoot because they had fun snorkeling due to having the right equipment! And misery does not make good pictures. But some models think this is a perv session. It also doesn't help having another photographer with the same last name get busted for cameras hidden in the dressing room. And the funny thing is, I worked with him on a show that he was photographer for. (as a stagehand)

I guess it depends on the experiences you have made.
Once you've encountered a perv with a hidden camera, you're bound to be suspicious :/

I received several scam messages since my last post.
Forwarded them to the Mods, and the profile they came from was banned instantly
So they really try, but there's always the odd scammer or criminal they can't detect.

Like the fishy business I had with an Eastern European, who clearly picked me out for my name and wrote the entire message in Romanian too.
He claimed he was eager to work with me, wanted to do a shooting in Germany, and suddenly flaked when he realized I was already working there (he apparently thought I was sitting in Eastern Europe in some tiny village eager to get out).
    Never heard of him again.
I have a pretty good idea what that one was about, unfortunately there's nothing I could give the Mods to investigate.

I'm looking into doing MM, but I fear I might be too "plain-looking" or a little overweight. Should I still do it?

    It can't hurt to try.
Just send in some pictures, and if they accept you, you're good to go.

OMG. My MM account was approved the other day, and I just got an offer for an underwater photo shoot with the tail!
