I see why you like the African Creole wrasse. Its subtle, and easily overlooked, but it seems like it gets cooler the longer I look at it.

I feel bad that I keep hogging the "fish-a-day" thread, but I refuse to let it die! I love this thread and I love to see people's inspiration!
    So: here's my next "catch"

The Moorish Idol. Another fav of mine from snorkeling in Hawaii... ahhhh...........

Here's one of my favorites. The Arapaima Gigas. They're known for growing up to 8 ft long, but due to overfishing, they are usually unable to reach that length.

lorelei! I LOVE those... their scales are AMAZING... Like beautiful armor!

  8. #68
And hard as armor too! They're actually known as a plated fish because their scales are so tough. They're rather dinosaur like.

yeah, I did some research on them just after you posted, and it took me to an interesting site about fish scales and the different kinds there are... which led me to the prehistoric fish like Coelecanths and lungfish... amazing things... they literally look like fossils. Amazing!
    Here's another one for today:

The lookdown or moonfish. And speaking of my love for long fin filaments: check out what the juvenile looks like-- they call him threadfin jack!

i love the flowy-ness of these fins, like the slightest water current would make them float around beautifully. it would be easy to create with fabric, so this features in most of my design sketches :>

very beautiful! They remind me of the goldfish from FANTASIA... which I LOVED.. I too am smitten with flowy fins. On my dream tail, I have got to have lots of flowy fins!

Here's my next fish-a-day entry. Again, I don't mean to hog the thread, just wanna keep it going. By all means, others may post!

Not exactly a rare fish, but not commonly seen or talked about. but I love those red fins! Pretty sure this is in the same family with the oarfish!

Okay, so it's a sea squirt and not a fish... I present the Fijian Ultra Tunicate Cluster:
