I finally figured out a way to do the airbrush look on tails, completely eliminate the possibility of paint chipping and now hidden side seams! Check it out I'm very very excited about these new developments. Keep in mind the latex is still vulnerable to pool sides and walls and rocks. Check out these pictures. The blue airbrush sample tail is only 10 inches, the scale pattern is my standard size scale pattern. And the side seam test pictures, the left seam was left alone, and I covered the right seam and then folded them inward to show the difference.

I'm glad you're improving your methods! I think a more blendy, airbrushed look will really help to improve the look of your tails. I think you should still do both though. It should be interesting to have both soft and hard lines throughout a tail.
