Canals everywhere to get around would be nice though, and since if you dig more than 3 feet you hit water here, I think it could work!

Yeah I agree with Brooke xD I think that's just a flooded grassy area. Normally where they dig those flood ditches on the sides of the road. Then it rains and they becomes ponds almost
