@Coyote it could be that the nerve where they pulled the tooth is still inflamed or necrotic tissue.

Wouldn't a dentist be able to figure that out? I went to a different one and got a second opinion, he took X-rays...did a full exam...nothing. His best guess was that the nerve was just overly sensitive and needed time to heal, and I mean it has gotten better but it's been nearly 4 months or so...that seems like a long time.

My dentist missed the necrotic tissue on me. He sent me to an endodontist who figured it out immediately. He did a root canal and got rid of the necrotic tissue the pain was gone.

Not exactly health related but I swallowed too much water in the pool today during a hard lifeguarding test combined with having just eaten and puked.

That, and I didn't even get into the class because it was too full.

    Muscles.

My 5yo just had her second hip surgery and she's in a hip spica cast again, from hip to ankle- one leg only to the knee. So heavy, and I think I was stronger last surgery, and that her being like 5lbs lighter made a difference, because I am all kinds of sore from lifting her. I'm lifting from the legs, but my back is still involved, and my upper back and shoulders hate me today. Gah. I don't carry her far- lift off wheelchair, turn, set on bed. Lift off bed, slide down to beanbag. Etc.

Yep, if I'm not stronger after all this, I'd be really surprised. Just under four more weeks of the lifting a 46lb child in a cast that feels like it weighs as much as she does, but probably doesn't.

I am in no way complaining about doing what I can for my daughter; just that I am strong like hamster.

Just found this thread, and thought I'd join in. I'm wondering if anyone has specific exercises that help with swimming strength and breath holding. I have had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 25 (I'm 33 now). I go through times when the pain is so bad that I don't want to move, but I don't have a lot of strength even on good days. I went swimming on Saturday and was so wiped out and sore that I could barely move for 2 days. I should take it slow but I was having too much fun snorkeling at the lake!
Do any other mers have RA? How do you deal with it?

No, but I am an epileptic. I had grand mal seizures right up to my teens, so I never did much exercise then until last year. I go at my own pace, which is much much slower than a snail! I practiced with monofin only for several months, and only recently started trying out tricks like spinning underwater, humming and fish hopping. I know my very first swim, I was so winded after it, when I got home, all I did was sleep early and didn't wake up till the next day! Its not so bad now, I may sleep early if I've pushed myself, but I know my limits and always stop to rest (sit on the side of the pool) or float on my back until my breathing returns to normal! I don't get winded much anymore. I've gone from a 5 secs breath hold to around 28 secs. It takes practice but you can do it too!

    My eyeball health.
one eye is +.25 while the other is -.25
i need a special pair of computer glasses because I stare at a screen all day and they will double up as reading glasses as well.
also my eyes are pretty unique because with most Asians we have very dark brown eyes and as a result usually have huge pupils meaning were sensitive to light.
in my case however I have extremely light brown eyes but the most ginormous pupils ever. Granted I think it might be genetic because everybody on my dad's side has light brown eyes.

I have stomach pain every night. I'm trying probiotics in yogurt and pill form and electrolytes (not sure of the reason they help but they do). All this is being watched by my doctor. But it's not working really and I'm not sure what to do.

Sorry to hear that How long has this been going on? Any other symptoms? I've had IBS since I was 12 so I know the woes of stomach and intestinal issues for sure. Could be a whole lot of things causing it, though. I hope that if this continues your doctor will start doing tests to rule out different things soon.

Until then, you could try a few things that could help. Firstly, ginger. It's often overlooked because it's used in cooking, but can be very medicinal! It can help nausea, stomach pain, abdominal pain, painful gas, ect! Using fresh root to make a tea is great, especially if you throw in a few bags of chamomile tea as well as the ginger. I mention this first because both fresh ginger and chamomile tea are easy and cheap to get.
You can also use dried ginger or candied ginger- I love the candied ginger that Trader Joes carries. I carry it in my purse and have some in my car. Also ginger tincture. You can make your own for cheap using fresh root (just takes a few weeks to stew, a quick google turns up tons of results on how to make them) or buy premade in stores or online (HerbPharm is a great brand and carried in a lot of places). A lot of people like tinctures because you can put several dropper fulls in a shot glass, fill with water, and shoot it down. Rather than drinking a whole cup full of tea or eating several pieces of ginger (which can be too spicy for some).

Chamomile is great especially when combined with ginger. Both are carminatives. Carminative is an herb that is soothing to the gut wall, eases griping pains and reduces the production of gas in the digestive tract, and can have a locally anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and mildly anti-microbial effect upon the lining and the muscle coats of the alimentary canal (the whole of your digestive system from esophagus to colon). Ginger, chamomile, peppermint, and fennel are all carminatives and are popular for use in helping stomach/intestinal ailments.
Also Chamomile is a smooth muscle relaxer. Your stomach is made of smooth muscle, and so chamomile does a wonderful job of settling a stomach, especially combined with other things such as peppermint and ginger. It is also a bitter, which upon taste will trigger your brain to produce more bile and other digestive juices. This aids digestion immensely. It's also an anti inflammatory.

Also something I swear by, at least for IBS, is Yogi's Stomach Ease tea! I order a pack of 6 boxes at a time from Amazon I use it so much! Yogi's teas are becoming more widely carried in stores now too. Great for stomach pain/cramps, intestinal cramps, painful gas, diarrhea, and nausea. I usually use 2 bags in a cup.

Probiotics are great, but most of them concentrate on acidophilus. Bifidus is another major one that most overlook. If your yogurt doesn't have bifidus, try and find a brand that does, or try supplements. Be sure to get the kind that's refrigerated- you can usually find those in health food stores in a small fridge.

Hope you start feeling betters soon!

I'm not quite sure if ginger would work out for me. I've tried it in pill form and it gave me an upset stomach as I also have GERD (um... where your stomach acid bypasses the valve between your esophagus and stomach and hurts). So those proved disasterous.) And also the chamomile tea bit but that doesn't seem to work for the stomach issues except a little bit and it doesn't really seem to work enough to continue with. I do know that ginger in food form doesn't upset the stomach but then I am typically averse to 'spicy' foods (I'm too Dutch lol). I've tried peppermint too but can't remember if it helped. I think I've sort of given up on things a little. I'll have to start using the tea a bit more, however that might be a bit difficult as I tend to run warm/hot already. Thanks for the bifidus idea. I'll have to see if my yogurt has it (probably not). I do wonder if the local version of Kefir' has it as that is the most available. We don't have a health food store here of any kind. bleh. I've also got a frikken migraine. That happens every night too. I think I need to move to somewhere warmer.

    Thanks a ton Iona.

I also have GERD and have for years. I find that ginger doesn't upset it if I mix it with chamomile, as chamomile is also good for GERD/acid reflux. Peppermint on the other hand will aggravate it. It's different for everyone, but I thought I'd let you know that sometimes combining those can help

Not sure...I have no life and so no-one to get sick from. Back when I lived with my parents I got sick because my mom got sick because she teaches.
