I'd probably have a smooth-coated otter... They don't live in the Persian Gulf, true, but I would TOTALLY make the trip up the Arvand Rud to the Tigris or Euphrates to have one as a pet. They're SO FRICKIN CUTE! And I'm totally a dog person, and otters are so much like playful dogs in old Persian we used to call them just that "water dog" (now we call them "water marten/sable" which kind of reflects the modern attitude towards them. They're practically extinct now in the region because of fur trade and habitat destruction )

I think if I couldn't live up the river for my water dog though, I'd probably have a pet finless porpoise, just because they too are so damn adorable... But I'm not sure if that'd really be a "pet - owner" relationship, I mean, given that porpoises are pretty damn smart... Like, almost as smart as humans (actually, I'm sure some of them are smarter than some humans if Jerry Springer is anything to go on... but I digress) So I'm not sure that I'd call that relationship as a pet or a friend. But I'd want to hang out with one regardless.

I love dolphins, any sort of dolphins, so maybe one of those....

Or maybe something unexpected like a saltwater crocodile!
