Why bury it? If it died naturally, wouldn't it be of more worth to pull it out to see as fish food?

large whales release chemicals into the water when they die ESPECIALLY mercury (as they sadly accumulate a LOT of it in their blubber) think in many places around the world it's in public interest to dispose of them this way sadly. I know that's what happens here too
also trapped gasses in them can make them explode apparently. lol that would suck
Eating Whales is wrong.
Hmm. I forgot about the mercury part.

A bit more civilized than the infamous exploding whale.

Hope they drained the spermacetti oil and recovered the ambergris first!
Fresh ambergris is worth hundreds of millions per pound.
*remembers that from Futurama*
when i first read the title of the thread, i thought it said "buying a sperm whale".
i was like, "that would be awfully hard to keep in a fish tank....."
xD
poor whale and her baby too. thats a shame.
That's absolutely what I thought it said...and everytime it pops up in the news feed that's still what I think it says Glad I wasn't the only one, lol
Very sad though with it being pregnant and all, though I think it is neat that they already had a "fish cemetery" in which to bury it!!
geesh I wrote it and even I thought it said that a few times!
hahahah yaaayy!! im not the only one who thought that xD
awww... c'mon, that whale does have its own website theexplodingwhale.com
(Formerly known as Æolius)
Those guys in Oregon didn't realize that explosives don't make things go away, it just turns them into smaller bits and spreads them around. Something you really don't want to have happen with a corpse, especially one that weighs many, many tons.
